Palestinians referes to the inhabitants of the geographical area known as palestine, just as Asians refer to the inhabitants of Asia. Go read the Balfour Declaration if you believe there's never been an area known as Palestine. Thus, Your "independent state" argument is both irrelevant, and ignores the history of the conflict.
