"an example of why we need big money for development. And it is absolutely not an example of why we don't. And if the secretary can't see that, we're going to have to get him a pair of glasses and a new set of ears."

One should read through the lines. Bono is screaming for "big projects" and "debt relief" in particular because he represents international banks. Bush's plan avoids them. Note that although the headlines say he wants more money, that's not exactly the case. You will never hear him say that the millenium fund should be 20 or 30 billion. He's shilling for the banks, which I talk about here:

Treasury Seccretary O'Neill Starts Africa Tour With Bono

As this trip progresses, he's getting more and more shiller. Each sound bite his handlers are feeding him is failing.

That's the way I see it anyway.

is there some problem with you multi-million dollar rock stars just using your own da** dollars for your pet causes? Some of us here in America are having a hard enough time already trying to make ends meet, quit begging from the pockets of hard-working tax payers.

I suggest a law whereby foreign buttheads such as Bono and his ilk leave 90% of their profits here in the U.S. He seems to think that there is a money tree here in the U.S.--doesn't give a thought about the taxpayers who are scraping for a living here.

If Bono wasn't a lying hypocrit, he should happily agree to a 90% tax rate for music and Hollywood celebrities. They don't really need to wear $30,000 designer gowns and suits to receive their awards, and living in simpler homes would be a nice change and less wasteful. He doesn't live the middle class lifestyle himself so he should focus on taxing the rich.

Methinks Bono wants to be the new Diana.

Good one.

That is the essence of the liberal hypocrisy! They feel they are entitled to their fancy lifestyles and priveliges while they decide how the common taxpayer's money should be spent.

This whole thing with Bono and O'Neill has me so livid I can barely speak in a rational tone.

Thanks for the link, but to use it I would have to sign up for the NYT. Too slimy for me!
