Give Me Liberty Or Give Me A New FBI

This new FBI has taken over the news lately. The president has not condoned nor challenged the mutations to my knowledge. The FBI seems to have decided to completely change the way they work with no approval or acceptance from any other government agency. This is what has started to worry me. I like my checks and balances, I pay for them out of every paycheck. I may simply be mistaken on the changes being made at the FBI. As long as they are changing their organization and not how their organization follows the constitution I will be ok with it, but then they have not been very forthcoming with their exact changes.

Would you give liberty for security? Would you give security for liberties? We can talk all day about honor and freedom, but have you really thought about it? It used to be an easy answer back before we had to worry. Before our wakeup call. Our nation has bled for our freedom. Our forefathers died for our freedoms. Our very own ancestors risked everything, regardless of the timing to come to this country and to make it what it has become. So, we could easily say, back then, that nothing was worth losing our liberties. Without a forseeable future of actually having to make that decision we could say those honorable words and appear to draw honor from them. Now it is a different story.

I recall a personal experience sitting with my mom watching the election results in November 1992 at age 13. Maybe I over emphasized the gravity of the situation, but judging from the outcome it could also have been a pre-acknowledgment of what was to come the proceeding 8 years. I got quite upset at the outcome and may have freaked out a bit about what it all meant. I questioned my mother on what would happen to us if such a man and such a political party ran the White House. You see, all my years until then (with the exception of the first) was under a republican president. I understood liberals to be on the way to communism signifying lack of freedom and economic stability.

I cannot say that I was wrong about what that night meant to the country, however I vividly remember how my mother consoled me and what she taught me that night. That night my mother lent to me her views on the american people. She explained how we were too powerful to let one little man do anything bad to us. She explained how we had the "right to bear arms" and that this meant we could protect ourselves from evils such as a misbehaving government. My mother taught me that night that the will of the american people will not be hushed. Maybe I had learned this in history classes before but I had never really related it to reality.

Between this fact and the checks and balances in our government I cannot fathom that we could allow our liberties to be taken away. The question is whether we will allow them to be slowly eroded while we stand in shock and fear until it has gone too far and we feel like we have been driving on alpha and cannot find our way home. I have definitely been lulled into hoping they make us safer not caring about where my liberties are. Since our wakeup call I have definitely been thinking about the balance between liberty and security intensely. In my head, certainly not aloud, I ask for them to just keep us safe and I really don't want to know how they do it. I don't want to think about liberty erosion, I just don't want to be nuked in my sleep, or worse while I am awake. In my head I just want them to keep us safe, but in my heart I want my freedoms.

So will we listen to our heads or our hearts? I have made my decision. I will trade my security for my liberties. Because security will never be 100% with or without following the Constitution. We must hold tight to our constitution and do as much as we can for our security while maintaining individual rights. If you read Revelations in the bible you may notice something. America is not mentioned as a nation in the end. Many debate on whether this means it will be grouped with the european nation or whether it is totally wiped out. I cannot imagine that we could go from being the biggest superpower in the world to not even mentioned in the last chapters of the history of it all unless we weren't there. So if we are going to be wiped out eventually anyhow why bow out now and turn our backs on everything this country has stood for since its colonization. If we are going down we should go down kicking with everything we have holding our morals, virtues, and national character high above our heads as the ship starts to sink.

A couple of powerful bombs loaded with nails and bolts detonated at the Mall of America or a few State Fairs might alter this point of view.

These restrictions were placed on the FBI for good reason. Now they want to increase the power of an agency whose new directors first action was to do a song and dance trying to protect the good ole boy network. Muellar has a long history of being a coverup artist for incompetent and corrupt government agencies, he should be fired.

A couple of such weapons detonated where and as you indicate would result in one heck of a lot of ragheads being physically chased out of the U.S. It may or may not be desirable, it may or may not be Constitutional, but it WILL occur. And, we wouldn't see ANY more garbage sentiments like we saw after 9/11, you know the stuff, 'While we condemn these actions (actions, is it?), America and Israel must still answer for blah-blah-blah.'

Just one more time, boys, just ONCE more, and your a** is gra**.
