My suggestion, then, was based on faulty info concerning the usability of the existing building.

Yes, that's what happens when the media tries talking rationally with hysterical environuts and takes them seriously.

You have no idea how many people who live up to a mile away from the WTC site claim that the stench is still overwhelming. Yet I live a very few blocks from there and will swear on a stack of Bibles that the smell pretty much went away when the fires were all put out in late October or early November.

I've met people from the Lower East Side, right by the East River, who were claiming it was overwhelming just a couple of months ago! I've met people who live in Greenwich Village who claim to still be able to smell it up there, when I haven't sniffed it all the way down here in about six months.

I live up by the Guggenheim Museum, and I only smelled it for one or two nights immediately thereafter, when the wind came from the south.

I know someone in Flatbush who said she could smell it on & off for weeks, when the wind was blowing from Ground Zero.

Well, in early October, I got a whiff of it up on E. 39th Street one night. And the day after, I was at my dad's house on the north shore of Nassau County and the stench was so strong in his garage that he went back into the house to make sure that the house wasn't on fire, and some people said they smelled it out in Huntington that first day or so afterward. And there were some mornings here (in my apartment building) when I thought there was a fire on my floor. I actually had the front desk send someone up to check.

But people a mile or more away claiming to be overcome/overwhelmed by it months later is just hysteria and/or pure bullclinton.

Somewhere on my hard drive I have satellite photos of the smoke plume from immediately after the attack. It is a 1/8 mile wide streak of airborne crud heading due SOUTH across Buttermilk Channel, straight down Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn, over the Rockaway Inlet, across Breezy Point at the tip of the Rockaways, and down the Jersey Shore.

Hysterical Manhattanites are hypocondriacs, I think.

Her latest offering was certainly a hoot, wasn't it?

How did you fare with yesterday's hip-hop teacher's protest? I took a look at lunch and heard them calling for the kids to move back from the barricades. Since there were only a few dozen (under a hundred) at the time, I knew it was going to be no good. Sure enough!

Did you know Thomas Sowell went to Sty? Wrote a wonderful column about his experience in 1995.

Immediately after the attacks, sure. But claiming to be bothered by non-existent smoke and fumes months later and more than a mile from the site is just plain kooky.

My fellow Citizens,
On behalf of the people of New York who opposed the candidacy of Hillary Clinton for US Senator, I would once again like to formally apologize for not being better at getting out the vote. I recognize that we all now must pay the price for the failure of just a few of us, and I am deeply sorry for my role in this failure to both the people of New York, and the United States.
While I recognize that this apology is hardly compensation for the indignity of Mrs. Clinton's continued assault to both your values and those upon which this country was founded, I hope it can serve as an indication of the repentance of those of us who by living in her local district, had a more direct role in potentially opposing her candidacy.
My personal role was only as a private citizen and didn't include any direct participation in the political organization of her opposition. And like any private citizen I voted in the election for the candidate of my choice. But had I known the result, I would have become more involved, and donated more time and money to her opposition.
And now we all must bear a portion of the burden for our failure here in New York. So on behalf of myself, and all those New Yorkers who feel the same shame I do when Mrs. Clinton claims to represent us, I apologize for our apathy, and lack of diligence. I assure you that at the very least, the apathy won't happen again.

Thank You for your continued patience.

I purposely avoided going near there yesterday. I think they're back today, or some other equally odious gang.

I didn't know that about Sowell, but it doesn't surprise me -- he's so smart. :-)

I think that the girl I knew who lives on the Upper West Side and claimed to smell it up there in late December just ain't all there.
