(Information obtained from open sources)

  1. USArmy Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (Ft. Detrick, MD)#,*

  2. Dugway Proving Ground (Utah)#,*

  3. Naval Research Medical Center and associated military labs (MD)#

  4. Battelle Memorial Institute (Ohio; plus laboratories in many other locations)#,*

  12. Institute for Genomic Research (MD)

  13. Chemical and Biological Defense Establishment, Porton Down (UK)*

  14. Center for Applied Microbiology and Research, Porton (UK)*

  15. Defense Research Establishment, Suffield (CA)*

In addition, CDC, NIH, and Los Alamos and a few others may have the Ames strain.

* Obtained through a FOIA request by the Washington Post (article Nov 30, 01)

# indicates laboratories in the US that are probably more likely than the others to have weaponization capabilities.

I know Fox News and perhaps others received letters from the perp months before 9/11. So, he just didn't wait for 9/11. Still it's interesting info.

Anthrax is a big nothing, the whole story sounds ridiculous the news media and politicians are ridiculous the investigative agencies looking into this sound even more stupid than the stupid news personalities why cant the CIA or FBI hire coldblooded forensic experts to work for them? Cant we figure out who has had acess to this stuff? Its wrap your head with duct tape time!

I wouldn't be surprised if every Ag college and U.S. Dept of Ag. R&D lab had anthrax in their stores somewhere. And once it's in a college, it could be anywhere.

the form of anthrax found in the Daschle letter: fine particles, very narrow size range, treated to eliminate static charge so it won't clump and will float in the air. The weaponization process used was extraordinarily effective. The particles have a narrow size range (1.5-3 microns diameter), typical of the US process.

I'm concerned about the 'facts' presented here. Daschle has been well documented as having a large size range (upto 40 µ) versus Leahy which does have the narrow size range.

Nevertheless, I'm now inclined to believe that the anthrax samples in the Daschle and Leahy letters are exactly identical. The early substantive reports suggested they were different, eventually mentioning cluster size. I thought this reasonably meant that they had two different batches on hand. However, the Daschle envelope and letter were wetted. Contact with moisture would cause the otherwise-identical Daschle powder to clump together, and probably pickup cross contamination from the inks, water, paper cellulose, etc. Identical samples would be consistent with the identical messages, addressing, sequential taping, etc. I haven't seen this mentioned previously, so any further info is appreciated.

Anthrax = Islamic Terrorism

Any scenario other than Islamic terrorism means ALL of the following are just coincidences.

SERIOUS CONNECTIONS

- The most serious bioterror attack in America began only days after 9-11

- The letters all mention standard Islamic catch-phrases.

- Florida Dr. Tsonas treated Ahmed al-Haznawi for a severe leg lesion in late June. Also here.
Dr. Tsonas is now convinced it was cutaneous anthrax.
Two Johns Hopkins biodefense experts, Dr. Thomas Inglesby and Dr. Tara O'Toole, agree.

- FL hijackers inquire about crop-dusters and dispersal characteristics of chemical loads.

- Moussaoui, the "20th hijacker", had tech info on airliners, crop-dusters, and wind patterns.

- Mohamed Atta went to Huber Drugs (Delray Beach, FL) with red hands during the summer of 2001.
Druggist thought Atta was suffering from chemical exposure (basic pH -possibly bleach).

- Allah Rakah, detained by FBI, for placing suspicious bag of letters in his car with FL license plates

- Atta met twice with Colonel Muhammed Khalil Ibrahim al-Ani, a "very senior" Iraqi 'Special Ops' agent.
(one report says the Czechs confirmed they had video...spycraft SOP)
(Another report claims that a vacumm bottle was passed to Atta during the meeting)

- Ziad Jarrah also met with an Iraqi agent in 2001 in the UAE.

- Marwan al-Shehhi also met with an Iraqi agent in 2001 in the UAE.

- Iraq is the ONLY hostile country known to have succeeded in weaponizing anthrax

- Iraq conducted military exercises simulating the dispersal of anthrax spores from crop-dusters

- The hijackers had two operational hubs: Hamilton, New Jersey and Delray, Florida. Anthrax was found in both areas.

JUST COINCIDENCES??

- The wife of the Sun tabloid's editor rented two apartments to two hijackers In Florida.

- Marwan al-Shehhi went to Huber Drugs (with Atta) with severe chest congestion.
The pharmacist sold him a bottle of Robitussin initially, and later antibiotics.

Your post #7 is an excellent analysis and presentation of facts which simply cannot be written off as coincidences. Just a couple of nights ago on Hardball, Matthews had on a so-called expert who is still pushing the RW theory. Matthews agreed with him and even went so far as to say - anyone with half a brain knows it’s a radical right winger. I think you outlined the common sense facts in such a way that would lead anyone with "half a brain" to realize the anthrax attack was a follow-up to 9/11.

A study of genetic drift at certain locations in anthrax is underway at Northern Arizona State University. The results are expected to give an idea of how many times the letter anthrax had replicated, in comparison to the reference strain-ie, whether it was grown on a very large scale (as in a State program) or on a very small scale, as would be likely if recently made by a terrorist.

That this study was being conducted or at least contemplated has been implied before (reading between the lines in previous published reports), but I don't think it's been explicitly acknowledged before. The results should be very interesting.

All the letters probably contained the same material. The clumping of the anthrax in the two letters mailed on Sept 18 (to NBC and the NY Post) probably resulted from the letters getting wet in the course of mail processing or delivery, according to Army scientists. This conclusion is strengthened by the similarity of the Florida anthrax (the first to be observed, probably also mailed on Sept 18) to that in the Daschle letter, mailed Oct 9.

There is no justification for the statement that "[a]ll the letters probably contained the same material." First of all, there is, in spite of what this article says, no evidence regarding whether the Florida anthrax is particularly similar to the Daschle anthrax (beyond both being substrains of Ames). Moreover, there are apparent differences in symptomatology among the different anthrax mailings, suggesting that the mailings were not of identical material. See post #73 of mine on this earlier thread.

Finally, go back to the lead comment: All the available evidence indicates that the source of the mailed anthrax, or the information and materials to make it, is a US government program.

In spite of Rosenberg's pronouncements, this is only one possibility. The available evidence is only that, being Ames, the anthrax derives, directly or indirectly, from a U.S. lab. Whether it's from a U.S. government program or not is still unknown.

In addition, even if it is derived from spores in a U.S. government lab, this does not preclude that anthrax having been obtained by terrorists or a foreign power; this, even if true, would not be evidence that a U.S. scientist had actually mailed the anthrax.

"Duke University Medical School, Clinical Microbiology Lab. (NC) VA Medical Center, Durham (NC)"

I vote for Duke. After all they did say orginally it came from a stream in the Carolinas.

Has anyone considered that the anthrax "outbreak" was a trial run by Al Qaeda? These are the people of the WTC bombing in 1993 who waited 8 long years for their chance to "get it right." It's possible that they planted strains of anthrax in various locations and then sat back to see how many people were infected, how many died, and where they lived. This thought scares the heck out of me because I can only imagine what may happen in the future if they again "get it right."
