FLORIDA FIREFIGHTERS ENDORSE BUSH
Gov. Jeb Bush honors FL firefighters
on Firefighter Appreciation Day, March 2002
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS- The Bush-Brogan 2002 campaign is pleased to announce the endorsement of the Florida Professional Firefighters (FPF). The announcement was made on Monday during the FPF's 58th Annual Convention in Altamonte Springs. The FPF represents more than 16,500 paid professional firefighters and EMS personnel in over 150 departments throughout Florida, and their endorsement is the first in a series of endorsement announcements to be made by the campaign.
"Ensuring that Florida is a safe place to live has been and will continue to be a top priority for this administration," Bush said. "I am grateful and honored to have the endorsement the FPF and I look forward to continuing to serve as an advocate for the public safety workers of our state."
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined Bush in Altamonte Springs for the announcement of the FPF endorsement. "Jeb Bush has been an outstanding and accomplished leader and Governor, and I am proud to once again come to Florida to lend my support to his campaign," stated Giuliani.
"Governor Bush has always shown he cares about firefighters and public safety personnel," FPF President Bob Carver said. "His administration has proven its unwavering commitment to Florida's firefighters. He has lead this state with courage and vision."
Governor Bush's commitment to Florida's public safety workers has been unwavering:
* Fulfilling a 1998 campaign promise, Governor Bush signed the Police and Firefighter Pension Act (House Bill 261) into law in 1999, improving retirement benefits for Florida's public safety officers. This was his first bill to sign into law as Governor.
* 1n 2000, Governor Bush signed into law Senate Bill 94, which increased disability payments for special-risk officers by 23 percent.
* This year, Governor Bush has signed several bills into law to aid Florida's firefighters. Senate Bill 108 provides workers' compensation benefits for firefighters and other emergency personnel for injuries sustained while performing their job responsibilities while off-duty or outside their regular jurisdiction. Senate Bill 176 and House Bill 1357 increase educational and death benefits for children and families of firefighters and other law enforcement who are killed in the line of duty.
Gov. Jeb Bush thanks FL's brave firefighters.
If anyone wants more than just one, I have a stack of at least a hundred, so anyone who wants several, FReepmail me your address and they're on me. You just have to promise that every one of them will get put somewhere that will cause a severe rise in democRAT blood pressure.
You know what they say about 'great minds going in the same direction'....LOL
