He folded. You can't put a square into a round hole and I think Andrew Sullivan's attempt to make it sound inconsequential falls flat. Sullivan should stop embarrassing himself for it makes him look like an apologist for the party line. Besides we conservatives don't stoop to personality worship. For me at least, principles matter more than who happens to be in the White House.

A wise man once said "you can't fool all of the people all of the time". Likewise, you can't please all of the people all of the time. In politics, you can't please some of the people ("your base") all of the time and remain in office. So, you need to please some of the people some of the time. Perhaps you folks might step back a bit and think. Bush already nixed Kyoto - pleasing some of the people. Now the WH issues a report saying "The changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability." - pleasing some of the other people. Reports and statements mean diddly unless acted upon. Sit back, wait, relax.

So, even though there is NO policy change in this issue, he somehow still compromised his "principles," right?
