But it ain't working; in fact, all attempts, whether by media slugs
or political opponents, to weaken or hobble this President have
boomeranged -- backfired, big time, and will continue to do so.

Good commentary as usual, JH2 !

Granted Newsweek "reporters" aren't the sharpest pencils in the box, but this is getting ridiculous. It gives new meaning to the phrase *Intelligence failure*. Among 'reporters', brilliance has never been a strong suit, apparently.

Great report and Quote of the Day material here.

The news media cannot be trusted any more than a politician or a lawyer. They all are interested in putting their slant on every situation and neither one of them can be trusted to look for the truth.

I agree, John is by far the most insightful contributor here on FreeRepublic and his comments would bring the one thing most of the media outlets lack, and that's "Common Sense"

Great Post John,

Mike

I'll tell ya what this tempest in a teapot is about: It's the press's on-going effort to cripple the Bush administration politically, and to profit financially from the tragedy of 9/11. That's what. Nothing more complicated than that.

You are absolutely right, as usual, John.

The media are in a frenzy to bring down the President's approval in any way they can. It seems that every day there's another "smoking gun" headline that turns out to be just another hit piece on the Bush Administration.

I have grown weary of it all. Even here on Free Republic, Bush bashers have come out in droves.

The F.B.I. agent who wrote the Phoenix memo labled it "routine;" yet, we have had weeks of "Did the F.B.I. Fail to Prevent 9/11?" This week it's "Did the C.I.A.?"

I personally believe the media are out to demoralize those in the intelligence community and divert their attention from the important work they have to do.

At the same time, the democrats want to drag these same people in front of endless congressional committees so they can be bashed publicly.

That will REALLY help to keep us safe! I am totally disgusted.

You've nailed it....again.

Anyone with half a brain would acknowledge the FBI, CIA, INS, NSC, the Justice Dept, and even the Pentagon, had serious systemic problems after 8 years of Clinton/Gore. No surprise our enemies would act before a new administration had time to repair and redeem these agencies.

No one can know with certainty, if given another 3-6 months, the FBI and CIA might have cracked the terrorists ring, and prevented them from using the 9-11 method of attack. As you so clearly explain, agents were hot on the trail.

Right now I'm watching Senator Shelby on FOXNews. Why in the world he doesn't state the obvious, I don't know. He's saying the FBI had the Phoenix and Minneapolis memos in their Washington office in August, and should have acted on the combined information. Why in the world he doesn't remind viewers that in August, the FBI was a headless octopus, incapable of concerted action, I don't know.
