You would think that a medical examiner, of all people, would be able to give a more thorough description of his attacker.... He probably did, and the writer thought it was irrelevant information.
Or perhaps the FBICIAATFTBIMPD etc. decided not to publicly release a more pertinent identification of the attacker.
