I disagree! I love watching soccer, which is a lot more exciting than baseball or American football, the sole purpose of which is to smack each other (to define it simplistically). If soccer wasn't on at such odd times, I would have been glued to the TV. In fact I was 4 years ago watching France defeat Italy (I think it was Italy).

The quarterback does not smack anybody in football. He tries to pass the ball to an open receiver.

But you're a girl. European males also have feminine tendencies, so they'll probably have something in common with you.

May I say; I think you are insane for suggesting soccer is more exciting than the NFL in America. (Go Pack!)

BTW, it's not really referred to at "American Football", it's called the NFL.

"...smack each other..". EXACTLY! That's why I'm glued to my T.V. every Sunday afternoon.

Anyone recall the Joe Thiesman leg injury? Or how about Sweetness (RIP) side stepping into the end zone and of course Brett Favre doing his magic on the field. This is why I love this sport.

Don't forget about the actual playing time. Soccer is non stop for 90 minutes. American Throw and Catch (as an Irish friend once put it) is a lot of standing around, then they run a play that lasts maybe a few seconds, take a two minute timeout for TV, run another few seconds, stand around some more ...

The only thing less exciting than soccer is watching the paint dry.

I was in Europe during the '98 World Cup. I was participating in a soccer tournament (not in relation to any World Cup action), and I have to say it is a great sport. Don't get me wrong, I like to watch football, and I'll take in the occassional baseball game, but soccer is a sport that demands overall better conditioning for superior play. Look at how many three-hundred fifty pound linemen there are.
