Thanks for this post! Freepers have been on to Barbara Hatch Rosenberg for months but there has been no (that I am aware of) expose of her in the press. Her whole anthrax story started when she gave it to The Green Party in Germany. From there the usual suspects (New York Times for one) picked it up. Every three or four week, Rosenberg would issue a new press release (with no new facts) and the media would run it as if they had never reported it before.

Sure thing, Larry. You're right about Freepers having been onto this individual for quite a while, but then, that's nothing new. FReepers have been doing the job the mainstream media are paid to do, since long before I became a FReeper. With any luck, some well-paid, lazy, mainstream, neo-con alleged journalist will plagiarize this article, as so often happens with research posted here.

Since that report about the Ag. Dept. loan officer who said she had the encounter with Atta,
about half of the news reports I've heard have presumed that what Atta planned to do
was fill the passenger cabin with a tank...in order to fill it with fuel in order
to use the plane as a smaller version of the 9-11 planes.

These reports don't mention the possibility that Atta was going to fill the tank with
anthrax or some other noxious biological or chemical weapon.

The anthrax last year may have been domestic...but the press and the guvmint just
seem cock-sure that it couldn't have been foreign origin.
Got to find a white male right-winger to pin this one on!

Right. Thanks for reminding us. Remember when that got recycled back here by the media, as if it was something serious? If we had actually known the source of the story was some pinko environmental science professor from a some no-name college, would we have taken it seriously for a moment? But then, that's par for the course when it comes to anthrax mythology. The standard spin before Nuthatch Rosenberg was the rightwing militia theory, seeded into the public domain by Bob Woodward in the Washington Post. That one was starting to fray around the edges, because too many reports were appearing about the sophistication of the anthrax. Of course, before that myth, there was the "mountain stream" myth. The only constant in the officially-nurtured spin on the anthrax is that it's always baloney.

Barbara Hatch Rosenberg has mastered the art of contemporary agitprop, which requires:

1. A friendly media;

2. A "scientific" or "humanitarian" front organization;

3. A steady stream of press releases and public appearances.
