The post below is from Teachers.net chatboard. It is not a very political forum which shows how accepted as non-political political issues are in the teaching community.

Yesterday at lunch our first ever GAY PRIDE WEEK committee met and it was composed of gay and straight staff, as well as the principal (about 9 of us). After much discussion and being told "We must be careful not to be seen as indoctrinating students" (to which I said "We're never afraid of being seen as indoctrinating students against racism.") it was decided that we will have several announcements about famous gays and lesbians (play some Elton John and Melissa Etheridge music over the PA, too), the primary classes will read some of our new Gay Positive picture books and discuss different types of families and families with gay parents and the junior classes will attend an assembly with a panel discussion of gay adults who are PROUD of something they do or have done (e.g. career, education, sports etc).
The primary classes will all draw and write about families and we will hang my rainbow flag in the foyer and surround it with the work of the primary children.
While we know we might hear some opposition from some parents, we can't let that stop us. It hasn't ever stopped us from teaching anti-racist education.
It's exciting and ABOUT TIME!

p.s. For those of you who are not from Toronto, Gay pride Week is officially recognized by the City of Toronto and the rainbow flag is flown at City Hall for the entire gay pride Week. The Board of Education is very active in anit-racist education and also encourages anti-homophobia education in all schools - elementary and secondary.

Remember, the point is to change minds. Most who post on this forum are not engaged in politics and I suspect many of them are uncomfortable with Michael's post but too timid to say he is wrong. Gay Activists want irrational opposition because they know they will win the mushy middle if their opponents are seen as emotional haters.
Btw...most teachers who post on this forum are American.
Exactly how I feel. I don't care what adults do. Heck the maid of honor at my wedding stayed with her girlfriend at our house while we were onour honeymoon.
3rd grade kids don't need to be told about homosexuals. They don't need to wonder if they will be like their mother and father or if they will be homosexual like their teacher.
There are many forums on the site. "Michael" is now responding on theCanadian Teachers chat

"Look at the freerepublic site and see the 140 vicious comments directed at me. Unbelievable how demented these people are!"...
Demented?
Mikey is hitch-hiking on the Hershey highway and calling it 'love' and he thinks that we're the demented ones?
Uh... Buy a clue Mike...
You're the deviant, not us.
These icky Michael-type 'teachers' should be publicly horse-whipped.
But that'll never happen; Michael is the very type of 'good boy' the public schools now encourage, favor and nurture.
The universities are now choked with semi-male 'pleasers' who actually internalized all of that lying government propaganda.
Public Schools have become the enemy of decency and liberty; encourage children to disrespect such wrongful authority.
Agreed. As one who declined such opportunities, I save my charitable thoughts for the victims of these temporizers.
It must be. I graduated in 1971. it's still fits however.

Shame on t.net for joining the homophobic gang and deleting my posts. Are Bob and Kathleen et al denying that this might just be a legitimate educational issue?
Gee Rosa Parks' husband wanted her to be quiet too so as not to rock the boat. Thank goodness she didn't give in.I am by no means saying I am Rosa parks. But I sure know what it's like for people to want to have gays to "quiet down". We did that for centuries. No it's our turn to say NO.
Education is the beginning.

"...Education is the beginning..."
Hmmm...
"Sex by eight or it's too late?"
Crawl back in your hole faggot.
He also says gays make better teachers because they are more compassionate.
If theyre compassionate with the little boys, its easier to get in their pants.
Check out this site about the GLSEN and NEA telling you how to think and talk:
NEA and GLSEN Seek to Stifle Free Speech
Is it coming true if said indoctrination is really taking place in the schools of Canada and the U.S.?
I hate to tell him/her/it this but....it isn't fear , it's revulsion!!
