A series of calls from Westerfield's cell phone in early February appeared to mirror his rambling motor home trip to the beaches of southern San Diego County and the Imperial Valley deserts, Verizon Wireless representative Greg Sheets testified.
Westerfield is charged with kidnapping and murdering Danielle. He could face the death penalty if he's convicted.
The prosecution also called a series of witnesses who were at Silver Strand State Beach on Saturday, Feb. 2. Westerfield said he drove his motor home to Silver Strand that morning.
Beverly Jean Askey of El Cajon testified that her family was already at the beach when a motor home that she later learned was Westerfield's pulled into a nearby space sometime before 10 a.m. It was a nice, sunny day she said, yet no one came out of the vehicle.
"He just pulled up, he pulled the front window closed and I never saw anyone again," Askey said.
Two other campers said they saw Westerfield's motor home and noticed that it appeared closed up.
Earlier, Angela Elkus, a resident of the Sabre Springs neighborhood where the van Dams and Westerfield lived, answered questions about the motor home. She said she had seen children playing around the vehicle three or four times when it was parked on the street, but she said they were mostly older children. She also talked about a visit to the van Dam home after Danielle disappeared.
Elkus said she had never been to the home before, but she brought food over for the family on the Sunday after the little girl disappeared. She said that the family's dog appeared "scared, shy, confused and perfectly still" when she came in the house, and it did not bark, she said. Legal analysts say prosecutors want to convince the jury that a stranger could have come into the house and taken Danielle without the dog barking.

She didn't enjoy Flame wars, but engaged in responding to those who tried to disrupt the threads and believe me, We knew who they were. It was an everyday battle.
Obviously, the Moderators didn't see it that way...and I am very, very disappointed. A time out is one thing, for a first offense, but to be totally BANNED from a specific THREAD is another. I don't even know if it's ever been done before here on FR? Oh, well, there's always a first.

We have been moderated beyond the point where debate continues to be vigorous, and folks are afraid to broach certain points, many are afraid to post. Free Republic is suffering from auto-immune disorder. And our good FR white cells need to back off and let tempers flare imtemperately at times, for such is a mark of vigor in debate.

These statements are apparently not far afield of what landed 14-year old Michael Crowe in jail for his sister's murder. After being told by Escondito police that they had evidence that he was involved during a prolonged interview Michael said "Well, I guess if you say I did it, but I don't remember" These leading, manipulative tactics are employed regularly to bolster the DA's numbers.
I thought I'd post my latest takes on a couple of recent testimony "bombshells". (wink, wink)
All the build up and final revelation of the wallet "evidence" is very weak. Along with other time wasters, I wonder why so much effort is spent on things that are not damning. I'm beginning to believe that the so-called forensic evidence must be awfully minuscule in order to require all this window dressing.
First of all, Donald aka Barney Fife aka Wannabe Ranger is an elderly man who, from the looks of it, has compromised eyesight. He could have, at best, caught a glimpse of something that DW had his bills in. Maybe it was A wallet or something that would be described as one.
However.......does that mean it was the wallet to which DW referred? He, like others, may have more than one. He may carry a planner or some type of pouch with checkbook and credit cards. I carry my ATM card with my regular wallet, but my credit cards in a different leather wallet/folder type of thing. Barney the Ranger and his spotting of the wallet is not the biggie that it has been made out to be. Big surprise there, huh?
Then there are the various witnesses brought forth to describe the sneaky, odd, or suspicious behavior of Westerfield at the Silver Strand and in the desert.
The woman who spoke of him quickly shutting the door behind him when he came out to speak with the park ranger is embellishing, IMO. I doubt she really has a clue if or how he shut the door. Who pays attention to such things if there is no reason to be watching? I seriously doubt that DW slammed it or made it obvious.
Now we also have tow truck man who heard DW talking to someone. This one really cracks me up. I'm not sure if the tow truck guy just discovered him stuck or if DW called him. Assuming the latter, wouldn't it be odd for him to be have not concealed or taken care of anything or anyone that could have given him away? Just like the wallet story, I think the voices in the desert revelation is a whole lot of nothing. What does it prove? What guilt does it show?
One thing is for certain in my mind. The prosecution is going to have to come up with one very phenomenal sequence of events that led from Danielle's bedroom to the discovery of her body at Dehesa Rd., all by way of one David Westerfield. I have not come up with a workable scenario yet and if they don't bring forth something better to prop up the imagined methods, routes, etc., I can't see it. Good grief they have been unable to show me even a single lie from him at this point. The wallet bit was their best shot yet and that did nothing for me.
As I said earlier, unless Columbo shows up, this prosecution team better hope for something close to a miracle. I feel sure there has to be a few on the jury that have the same questions and doubts that we do.
