My dad was really one of a kind...smart, funny and very eccentric...all my friends called him 'pa', and thought he was about the funniest, smartest man they ever had seen...many of my friends did not have fathers...some lost their dads in WW11, some to divorce...and they came to look on my parents as their 'ma and pa' as they called them...

Sometimes kids would come over to the house, not to see me, but to see 'ma and pa' and get some parental advice...

One fella told me, that my parents saved his life, when as a teen he was falling into problems with alcohol, serious problems...my parents took him under their wing, and worked with him, to help him out...

I never knew that until years after the fact...I think my mom and dad helped other kids, that I will never know about...they never turned anyone away, for any reason...

I think, that kid with the alcohol problem, really hit home with my dad, as my dad had his own demons with alcohol abuse, him being the abuser...we had a few rough years at home, when he was a big, mean drinker, but he finally saw the light and cut it out...
