Three Saudis, one Kuwaiti deny rape and murder of a child: lawyer

KUWAIT CITY, June 15 (AFP) - Three Saudis, including a woman, and a Kuwaiti denied Saturday that they brutally raped and murdered a six-year-old girl last month in a reported "honour killing", said the lawyer for the victim's family.

"All denied the charges against them," Dokhi al-Hasban told reporters outside the first session of the closed-door trial being conducted under heavy security.

Saudi nationals Marzook Saad Suleiman al-Saeed, 23, Saeed Saad Suleiman al-Saeed, 26, their 19-year-old cousin Latifa Mandil Suleiman al-Saeed and 22-year-old Kuwaiti Hamad Mubarak Turki al-Dihani are accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering six-year-old Amna al-Khaledi, a Bedoun (stateless Arab).

Hasban said the four were unable to defend themselves when confronted with the judge's questions about the evidence against them.

They were also unable to provide alibis, Hasban added.

The defendants all told the court they had previously confessed to the crime under duress, Hasban said.

Latifa was reportedly in a sexual relationship with the victim's elder brother but denied this in court, claiming instead that she had sexual relations with her own cousin Marzook, Hasban said.

Marzook repeated her story to the judge, Hasban added.

One of the defence lawyers declined to comment when approached by the press.

The emirate's interior ministry announced last month it had arrested the four, stating that the child's virtually decapitated body was found two days after her disappearance May 1.

The child was kidnapped from her home, driven to a remote desert area near the Kuwaiti-Saudi border, raped and then stabbed five times in the chest, the ministry said.

The prosecution claims the knife used belonged to Dihani, the Kuwaiti defendent.

Honour killings are committed in parts of the Arab and Muslim world to avenge a perceived affront to a family's honour, such as an out-of-wedlock relationship or a female relative marrying a man without her parents' consent.

The court's next session is slated for June 22, judicial sources said.

After they raped her, they decided that she was guilty of adultery.

The more we get to know about these people the less I like them. As far as I'm concerned, they should be blown off the face of the earth. What kind of animal rapes a 6 year old child?

OK, you all know the mantra... Islam is love, Islam is love....

These fruitcakes have no morality whatsoever. Its all about expediency.

One wonders why this outrage already has the phrase 'honour killing' attached to it.

There are some interesting insights to be gleaned from this event, other than the ones noted above.

This event seems to encapsulate the Arab view of just punishment for this perceived injury to their family/tribal pride. It vividly demonstrates their concept of “payback” and encompasses both retribution (punishment to another family/tribal unit for the perceived offence) and general deterrence (a warning to others). Another aspect to this is that the family/tribal unit is considered to be an appropriate target for this payback, as opposed to the actual offender.

This act of so-called “honor” is so far removed western sensibilities that it boggles the mind. But the fact is, when viewed in light of relatively recent events, that this is entirely consistent with Arab sensibilities seems too clear for reasonable debate.

It is my belief that this event goes a long way towards explaining what is otherwise, to us, inexplicable on a larger scale. These are the people we are dealing with.

Dialog of any sort with these people is pointless. Half-measures are meaningless. When we finally take them on, our actions must be so brutal, and mind-boggling in their enormity, that our meaning will not be lost upon the type of mentality that finds it acceptable to rape, and then kill, a six year old girl, just to make a point.

I think they mean "honor" as in revenge. Their sister had an affair with the little girl's brother--which dishonors their family. So they rape and kill the little girl, which dishonors her family.

In this way of thinking dishonor is not the result of raping someone and committing an evil deed, but of being raped by someone.

Needless to say, this is not honor as defined in the Christian west. In fact, it's sick.

...denied Saturday that they brutally raped...

Sharia requires four witnesses to legally make it rape. As these people probably won't rat on each other, there will be no rape conviction. All that leaves is the murder. If there was a perceived "dis-honour" to their family, the "honour killing" may hold up in court.

The only "honorable" killing would be dropping a 20 Megaton nuke on Mecca. Perhaps someday when Bush has thrown Colon Bowell out on his arse and told his towelhead-lovin' Papa to go screw, this mayn actually happen.

"Honor" and "Courage" are absent from the makeup of these lunatics....

If the "honor" of their family or whoring relative was "at stake" - they should have killed her --- or the adult male she was screwing -- or both... But - No, they attack rape and murder a SIX year old innocent relative of the lunatics....

Some people are beyond enlightenment....they simply need to be destroyed.

These are criminals. I don't know what kind of conclusions one can draw from the actions of criminals, except that they're criminals. I know I wouldn't want to be judged by the actions of clinton and gang, or how our system handled the lies and deceptions.

This was no mere crime. These people intended this to be an implementation of "justice" as they understand the term, and that is what they have seem to have used as their justification.

This is why attempting communication on any terms that we understand is futile.

Sometime back in the fifties there was a big sci-fi hit called something like "When Worlds Collide". That is what we have here - a collision of parallel, but apparently incompatible, worlds.

They seem to be making this into a case of us or them. Bad choice on their part. It is time for them to go.

Killing a six year old girl to defend ones "honor" is not only disgusting but also the height of cowardliess. Obviously these people were afraid to deal with an adult so they brutalized a child.

Yes, islam is a peaceful religion. Really. Sure.
