Sen. Schumer wants fed. gov. to develop plan to control Canada geese population (IDIOT ALERT!)

(Hempstead, Long Island-AP) -- The overpopulation of Canada geese on Long Island has caught the attention of U-S Senator Charles Schumer, who wants the federal government to do something.

Schumer is calling on the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service to develop a pilot program to solve the geese population on Long Island. The Canada geese have become year-round residents of parks and lake areas, causing problem with droppings on ballfields and play areas.

Schumer has written to Fish and Wildlife director Steve Williams to explore humane methods to control the geese population using non-lethal methods. Schumer said Nassau and Suffolk County executives will pick communities for the pilot program.

Some of the ideas to curb the geese population include:

- planting tall grasses that impair the visibility of the geese and make them feel vulnerable to predators;

- discourage people from feeding the birds;

- physical barriers such as fences around lakes and ponds to block access to the water;

- addling eggs so babies don't hatch;

- spray the grasses with repellents that make the grass taste bad;

- using plastic owls, moving scarecrows, noise machines and other sound effects to scare the geese;

- using specially trained dogs to chase the geese from the parks;

An open season with shotguns would do the job nicely.

Agreed, Schumer is an idiot, and this is hardly a govt responsibility. OTOH, these geese can make a terrible mess. Oh, maybe Hillary could make them an endangered species. ;-)

Saaaay...Didn't Hillary say she used to hunt ducks? Maybe she could be recruited to help with this project. Oh, never mind.

Even a brokem clock is right twice a day. I don't believe I'm actually coming up on the same side of an issue as Schumer, but in central Ohio, these vile birds are a royal pain. They foul up yards, sidewalks and parking lots with their droppings, waddle across busy streets and bring traffic to a halt, and generally make a nuisance of themselves. Oh, and you don't dare go "old-school" on these blasted animals and trap/shoot/poison them....big fines and jail time for those who do.

I sure that Chuckie Schmuckie will do the right thing. First, we can be sure that the ultra left wing, extreme liberal geese (they are Canadian, after all) WANT to do the right thing. So, it is just a question then, of education. Lets go to the breeding grounds and, with an "eggucation" program, teach the young goslings about the advatages of other landing areas. Then, with clever signs and posters in the primary languages honked by Canada geese, remind them of the alternatives. Sure, it can be an expensive program and will require, not only many dedicated federal employees, but the commitment of all Americans, but we have no choice, we must do it for the other silly gooses. Right Chuckie?

So because of government regulation prohibiting killing these vile animals, or in the case of New York the Sullivan Act, they need MORE government regulation to control them. Typical.

Oh sure, Upchuck!

Stop the geese from pooping and you know what'll happen?

The vegetation won't grow as well and you know what then?

Carbon dioxide will build-up in the atomsphere and you know what then?

Global warming!

You killer!

The solution, you ask....

Let people EAT these geeses to pieces and the increase in people's poop will protect the planet!

Chuckie, call Dan Rather with this. He'll thank you.

Repeal the ban on lead shot?

Open a special nationwide 9-iron season on geese on golf courses?

Donate a million Weber barbecue grills to the fiscally less fortunate, along with a million copies of Ted Nugent's Kill It And Grill It cookbook?

Ironic that he should worry about geese when he has an old bat senator taking a dump on him at every oppportunity.

I agree...Chuckie is right on the problem but wrong on the solution. Local gummints can offer permits to hunters--we don't need the Feds on this. End of problem (and they ARE a big problem wherever they take up residence for a while).

My border collie would do a better job of clearing out the geese. And it wouldn't cost the US a cent.

p.s. Why does UPCHUCK feel that this is a US gov't problem, and not a NY problem?? Because we're dealing with "foreign" immigrants? LOL!!
