I used to think illegals from Mexico were a real problem because I had only one frame of reference seeing them come through the Criminal Justice System. Since then, I have spoken with many employers, and they say the illegals are the most loyal, hard-working employees one can find. Maybe there is a message there about appreciation for our country.

Loyal cheap labor is NOT the issue. I am sure there are a lot of Al Qaeda sleepers that are working hard washing dishes and not making waves.

The issue is whether we prefer to have cheap lettuce and hire undocumented workers so they can build our houses to save a few dimes at the expense of our own citizens.

The issue is whether these people are here to assimilate and become loyal American citizens NOT loyal workers.

The issue is whether we are ready to simply pretend that our borders don't exist anymore.

The issue is whether money is more important than our liberty, our sovereignty, our constitution.

We don't have to hand anything over. The sheer numbers of Mexicans with their illegal votes will elect their own officials from the Governor down in the SW States and run them like Mexican colonies with Washington footing the bill.

I live in the San Fernando Valley (California) and this is already happening. Well on its way & happening fast.

I do agree with you about our borders, and right after I posted, I had meant to include that. Perhaps the issue is why do we keep using "illegals" without any legal program in place? The government has always turned a blind eye.

I thought Mexico had it. Hell, they practically have Colorado, also. It seems the INS WILL NOT deport known illegals, unless they are of a high political profile, such as some murderers.

I was born in Ky. I joined the US Air Force at the age of 17. I was stationed in Belgium, Vietnam, Turkey, Germany, Holland, Illinois, Washington, Mississippi, and Missouri for the twenty-five years that I was in the Air Force. I retired in Mississippi where we lived for about ten years. Then, in 1996, we moved to South Dakota where my In-Laws live. So, no, I haven't always lived in South Dakota.

Yes, we have a beautiful country if you look at the physical attributes of our nation. It can be very depressing when you think about how far we, the people, have fallen.

Perhaps it is the Free Republic's management who has shown their disgust with anti-illegal immigration proponents. I don't know. Are the others getting the pinging?

Ping received. Yeah, well, when "racism" is equated with being "against illegal immigration" and wanting to do something about it, there is going to be a problem. Maybe like Bush they see millions of new future republicans in the making. LOL. Until then perhaps they should ponder on why Mexico tolerates next to no immigration in their country and when violators of their strict immigration laws are found they are summarily arrested and deported. Why if I didn't know any better I'd say this is…..

In Los Angeles, there must have been roughly ten Spanish FM radio stations, four independent Spanish television stations, as well as spanish newspapers and other Mexican publications. Assimilation doesn't appear to be working there, nor most places where large numbers of Mexicans are migrating.

The problem with LA, is not only the "south of the border" population isn't assimilating, but neither are the Armenians (who have literally taken over Glendale), and some other ethnic groups/immigrants. You have a "melting pot", but the problem is, no one is "melting/assimilating".

You have ethnic communities fighting against others (especially in the gang communities). It's not just black and mexican gangs there. Include Oriental and Armenian in that game. And the unfortunate (well, one of many) things are, that each ethnic gang will teach the other of their "tricks." (this was told to me by a gang task force PD officer). Oriental gang members are infamous for following home someone and robbing/killing them in the driveway. Well, the others are catching on.

Back to illegal immigrataion....Many of the Armenians are also here on the public dole. They bring the family from "the old country" and the elders are on Medicaid/Medicare. It stinks. And they are *extremely* inclusive. Recently they asked the LA Diocese for their own Catholic Church, because they wanted to be amongst themselves (kind of defeats the purpose of catholic=universal).

It's bad. Very bad. And when these groups (illegal) make their own rules, it's a dangerous combination. We had the riots there in '92, but that will be like a Sunday BBQ compared to what can potentially erupt there. Thats why I'm quite comfortable away from there now.

You mean to tell me that the original part of Hollywood went downhill in the 1960s?

When drugs became really popular, then it started to get overrun with more drugs, crime, prostitution, ect....pretty ugly stuff.

Any "wanna-be starlet" arriving from the midwest or wherever, at that time, must've certainly been surprised that she was NOT in the "glamourous" city it used to be.

Ping received. I'm not surprised to hear the Mexicans think they can lay claim to all the states bordering Mexico. Hispanics predominantly work the low end jobs or suck off the government welfare programs in these states. The Mexicans invading the U.S. are not the best and brightest Mexico has to offer. The state imposed tax burden will eventually chase away all the businesses that keep the low end employed and the welfare parasites financed. They will capture the land, but it will have all the value of the farms captured by the black war veterans in Zimbabwe. Vast quantities of unrealized potential. Just as Mexico is today.

I believe in my heart that we still have the fighting blood of our ancestors running through our veins.

And cholesterol, and high sodium, and high sugar, and creeping insulin resistance, and overexposure-induced allergies to wheat, corn, soy, grass, mold, .... and don't forget the Ritalin prescriptions at one end of the age spectrum, and the Lipitor and ACE inhibitor prescriptions at the other, and all the dope-smokin', beer-guzzlin', barbecue-chokin' overindulgence in between.

Look at the CIA estimates of military-age men suitable for service. USA, about 2 million. Mexico, about 29 million. Their guys work outside installing drywall and chopping weeds. Our guys work inside on joysticks while guzzling Jolt! and Mountain Dew and sucking down Bugles and gummi critters. Our guys would need two years' advance notice, a year to get organized, six months to get their weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure under control, and another six months getting in shape physically and training up on weapons. Then they'd finally be as ready for basic training as the Army of the Potomac was in the summer of 1861. Two or three years of hard campaigning and combat, and they'd finally be first-rate troops. Five years, tops, from the minute the Mexicans drop the hankie, our guys will be ready to defend American soil and let freedom ring.

Any problems with that?

If that happens, I will emigrate.

Not quite so fast. That's the plan, amigo -- their plan. Do a search in a reference site on "plan" and "San Diego" and "Mexican-American" or "Chicano" or "pachuco".

I consider it racism on the part of the millions of Mexican illegal aliens when they come to the U.S. and refuse to adopt our American culture and traditions.

...widespread problem across the L.A. basin, though the coastal areas, with the exception of Santa Monica, seemed to be the least effected.

When I drove by the northern edge of the San Luis Obispo area, near Santa Margarita I guess it was, down to Morro Bay nine years ago, some of the settlements and houses looked like a West Coast version of a Wyeth painting, especially in the fog. In thirty minutes, coming from Bakersfield, I'd driven from 97-degree heat in the valley up over the grass hills of the Panza Range and through a low gap in the Santa Lucia Range of the Southern Coast Range to find myself in blowing fog just on the other side, and a temperature drop of about 40 degrees. I stopped the car, popped the trunk to retrieve a windbreaker (a ridiculous thought 10 minutes earlier), and got a faceful of 130-degree air from the trunk -- one of the strangest sensations I've ever experienced. Some interesting experiences in California! And a very picturesque area, too -- very little people could do to screw it up.
