Are there parts of Mexico in which the people appear more European than Indian? I know that the Mexicans that we've seen in the Atlanta area appear mostly Indian, yet when I was in the El Paso area, many of Mexicans with Chihuahua license plates seemed more European, though there were many Indians.

You will find the European Mexicans in the power structures of the large cities. Vicente Fox, who would not look out of place walking down the street in Madrid, is an example.

Those individuals are the ones who are wealthy enough to be completely satisfied where they are and have no desire to leave their possesions and businesses in Mexico. These individuals do not sneak across the border. They drive their cars over, do their shopping on the U.S. side and then drive back to their nice house in Mexico.

It is the poor Mexican of Indian descent that travels all the way to Atlanta to earn a living.

In San Antonio, I saw a group of Mexican women (had a Mexican license plate) driving an expensive car. Is this what you are referring to, or perhaps to the Mexican citizens that I saw in El Paso?

The problem with Vincente Fox and his ilk is that they are a part of the past and are holding on by the skin of their teeth.

They have the same demographic problem as the whites of the US. As time passes they are a smaller and smaller percentage of the mexican population. The use mass migration to the United States as a safety valve to prolong their power. They are however, as irrelevant as the tsars were in Russia. Like the Russian peasant, the Mexican peasant will get rid of their rulers eventually. The "Zapatista" rebellion in the South is only the tip of the iceberg. All throughout Latin America the indigenous population is rising in numbers. Their secret weapon is the womb.
