President Bush had a previously undisclosed meeting last week with General Tommy Franks, commander of United States forces in Afghanistan, to dicuss what was described on Sunday as 'concrete' military plans to attack Iraq.
'One of the meetings that wasn't reported this week was a briefing by General Franks in the Oval Office of the President on Wednesday revealed 'Fox News Sunday' panelist Bill Kristol, citing an unnamed administration source.
Kristol said that the Bush-Franks meeting indicates that the administration had decided to take action against Iraq regardless of the status of Middle East peace talks adding, 'Bush may be moving faster than we think in preparing to get rid of Saddam.'

World Net/ DEBKA is reporting the hospital story they usually get that from the Reuters Wire, and Kristol is his usual self.

Okay, anyone want to take bets as to how Rush is going to spin this on Monday?
That is, if he's back on Monday?

And 1,700 Britsh Royal Marines have just transferred to Kuwait from Afghanistan according to that hospital report.

" ... the hospital story ..."
If the new offensive is anything like Desert Storm, the field hospitals will be treating far more enemy casualties than our own.

Too bad Fox News does not understand Loose Lips Sink Ships.
But it's all about ratings, not national security, as usual for the media.

I only posted the story after 3 sources had it FOX, Newsmax and World Net/ DEBKAfile.
It looks like Bush is still playing his cards close to the vest even though this is common knowledge now.

I'm not faulting you.
It's the so called "fair and balanced" Fox News that broadcast this.
Rupert Murdoch is only after ratings.

I heard on FOX News this morning that Saddam was planning on possibly stepping down and turning over all power to his son. They claimed that he would do this to delay an attack from the US. Do you think that would stop us?

The fact that Saddam, all of a very sudden, is pulling troop movement rumors off the Reuters Wire is intended.
The tighter the noose gets, the more unpredictable he becomes, the more executions he will order.
The day is coming when some ambitious officer, perhaps even a member of Saddams Special Republican Guard, will put a well-deserved bullet in Saddam's brain.
An officer's coup is in the offing, much like the July 20th plot against the Adolf. This is one way of telling the Iraqi General Staff to get on the stick and "liquidate" the whole Hussein clan.
However, there's a problem. All that would replace Hussein is another ambitious, corrupt military officer.
We must insist on a constitutionally based republican transformation. Otherwise, a few years will pass and we will be dealing with another mountebank.

Chris

Let's hope we use Daisy-Cutters, fuel-air bombs, and every other piece of blast-em-back-to-the-stone-age weaponry in our arsenal ... and then send in our 6-man team to present the terms of surrender.

I saw that report as well, Saddams son is worse and more nutso..isn't he the one that had the Iraq soccer teams feet whipped after they lost a World Cup qualifier match?
In short, I think that will make the CIA move faster because the son may not be as careful as the old man in power when it comes to security.

At least Newsmax waited 5 hours beore going with it..

I'm with Chris here as he stated above, there is a darn good chance that the CIA or his own people will get rid of the family first.

I am of the school of thought that says use our airpower with regional troops just like Afghanistan.
Let the Turks go house to house in Baghdad, because that is where this is headed eventually

I don't believe that. There are few as evil as Saddam, and it sounds like an excuse to do nothing.

I know that Krystal's "rumors of wars" is an exciting, adrenaline-pumping thing to behold, but don't put too much faith in them.
Just for the short term, Syria is on the UN Security Council this month and Israel's astronaut isn't scheduled to go up on the Space Shuttle until next month.
Both of those events will pass long before we take action, so relax a little; we've got plenty of time before we fire up the barbeque.
Also, ask yourself this: what happens if Bin Laden and Omar pop up in a non-Iraqi, non-Pakistan country in the next few months? Would we want to be in the middle of an Iran/Iraq blitz when that happens...

I wouldn't be too hard on FOX News, Carl Cameron held the story about the National Security Agency getting the 'Tomorrow is Zero Hour message' and 'the match is beginning ' on Sept 10 (that they couldn't translate till Sept 12) for 3 weeks before CNN broke the embargo and aired it this week to damage the Administration.
Tony Snow and Brit are the good guys all they have is the seven second delay on the live program if Kristol shoots his mouth off.

I think John Edwards is the leaker on Senate Intelligence, he needs to butter up the media for the big run in 2004 by serving up some juicy tidbits..or Feinswine if she runs
To: Southack
Good point on Syria.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub
Perhaps they broadcast it because they know that Kristol is less accurate than Miss Cleo.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub
Too bad Fox News does not understand Loose Lips Sink Ships. And Kristol. What part of secret does he not understand? What part of aiding the enemy do either of them not understand. They will unnamed source anything in the world. Here's hoping they never get info on any U.S. planned attack or they might be responsible for many deaths and I'm sure they don't have the patriotism and respect for their co-Americans to keep their blasted mouths shut.

If only, it would be a dream come true. With Gloria Allred as VP, and Helen Thomas as Attorney General. Should we throw in El Reno just so we have the ugliest four women in America, instead of the ugliest three?

Jordan's King Abdullah II meets U.S. Air Force commander Tue Jun 18, 2:45 PM ET
AMMAN, Jordan - Jordan's King Abdullah II on Tuesday met with a U.S. Air
Force commander for talks on military cooperation, the official Petra News
Agency reported.
Lt. Gen. Buzz Moseley arrived in Amman for a two-day visit to the Arab
kingdom, U.S. Embassy officials said.
Petra said Abdullah and Moseley discussed military cooperation between both
countries.
Moseley also met with the Jordanian chief of staff, Gen. Khalid Sarayrah, to
discuss the Mideast crisis, and Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, the Jordanian
Royal Air Force Commander.
No further details were available.
Abdullah also held talks with the president of Eisenhower Scholarship
Organization for cultural exchange, Adrian Basoura, to discuss the group's
work in promoting international mutual understanding through exchange visits
of young leaders to both countries.
The Eisenhower Scholarship Organization, a nonprofit body, was established
in 1953.

I heard Wolf Blitzer say on CNN today that CNN's source was congressional.
To: aristeides
Poor CNN, and Wolf Blitzer.
FOX's Congressional Bulldog reporter Carl Cameron had the scoop 3 weeks ago and decided not to undercut the national security for a one day story.
The Clinton News Network gets the story the evening before the hearing from John Edwards and they run it like the second coming of Watergate.

um, kill this thread.....loose lips
To: codebreaker
If this is true, which I think it is, then why does the public know? If these are secret operations, then they should stay secret. I'm getting sick of these big mouth lefties who keep giving out war plans to the press. This is all done to undermine Bush and I'm getting sick of it!
This behavior amounts to treason and something harsh needs to be done to stop these "loose lips."

If this stuff is so secret, how does the press get a hold of it. And why do they report it?
To: codebreaker
Secret? If this is even slightly accurate I would not call it secret, anymore.
To: codebreaker
Then that someone needs a good talking to at the least. Bush can not conduct a war and have these sorts of leaks coming out. Now Iraq is ready for us or at least getting their "ducks" in a row so to speak. It's really treasonist!

Kristol is a professional leaker, World Net/Debkafile is relying upon 30 years of contacts of their reporters in the Arab world as former correspondants for the Ecomonist magaizne. (plus leaks from Israel Intel the best in the world)
As a rule of thumb the scoops are more accurate the closer they are to the Middle East area..
