Which side? West side is getting toasty. East towards Pinetop/Lakeside isn't burnt...yet.
You can go to kvoa.com (channel 4 in Tucson) for links to shelters in the area, they have listed as many of the evacuees as they can.
Show Low is pretty much empty now, except for firefighters and news crews.

I also think most of the stage for this inferno was set by the Smokey The Bear policy of the FS in which all fires were always put out, letting fuel stack up. Of course once it was stacked they couldn't just let hot fires burn thru the forests. Still it was fed. policy that created this monster.Exactly.

What we don't need is more rhetoric which serves only to fan the flames of hate and divisiveness. Coming from the Sierra Club, that's a joke. They've put out more wild rhetoric in the last 10 years than all the conservative in the country together.
Just one example: a press release this very month
Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 09:47:44 -0400
Sender: Sierra Club Press Releases
From: Wendy Balazik
Subject: President Bush Poised To Abandon Clean Air Act
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2002
PRESIDENT BUSH POISED TO ABANDON CLEAN AIR ACT
Of course, Bush is doing nothing of the sort. It's a lie, in other words.
Sharp partisan rhetoric is apparently OK for the Sierra Club, but not OK when used against them. People have been logging the west for a century. Environmentalists have been interfering in forest management practices for the last 20 years. If historical forest management practices were the problem, how come huge, devastating wildfires seem to be a recent phenomenon?

Thanks.
Worst part of it is, if the Sierra Club would stick to its original mission, I'd be proud to be a member.

No argument from me on the character of the Sierra Club. I'm still curious where they get all their money to by so many politico's.
