I know it's not historically accurate, but Bridge on the River Kwai is still a great flick.

Also, Lawrence of Arabia. (WWI)

I recently saw Enemy at the Gate, with Jude Law and Ed Harris, about that Soviet sharpshooter. Good movie!

The Deer Hunter was filmed on the River Kwai. I liked it because you got to know the characters very well before and after the conflict. To me it has all the ingrediants of a fine war movie.

Also, Lawrence of Arabia. (WWI)

Quickie plot summary: Peter O'Toole gets corn-holed by Jose Ferrer and later Peter leads the Arabs against the Turks as revenge for the backdoor entry.

Bizarre historical footnote: Many historians subsequently cast doubts on Lawrence being buggered by a Turk captor as he stated in his book which makes Lawrence one of the few who possibly covered up the fact that he DIDN'T have a rear door violation.
