Jeff,

I believe in God and I believe the the nation our founders envisioned, but this is all a distraction and diversion from what is happening. "The system" is gaining more power and control every day, and is using 9-11 as a vehicle for usurping power not granted by The Constitution. The populace is being played on their emotions and the current patriotism is little more than reactionary me-too-ism that gives eveyone as false sense of unity. The Feds love this, because it gives them a wedge in the door; a wave of emotional fervor to play off of to gain more control. One Natoin Under God? Sure. As long as no one confuses our current state as the nation our forefathers built and no one confuses G.W.Bush with God.

and no one confuses G.W.Bush with God." I will address this statement by you at the end of my response.

I may be foolish for responding to this, as I don't want to distract from the intial message. But, I happen to feel that by ignoring our rights (freedom of religion and religious expression, the rights of recognizing this Nation on the premises which it was founded. etc) we allow others to wipe away MORE and MORE rights. If our founding fathers could speak about God with unabashed pride while forming our government, then we should be able to also!

We've watched the continued erosion of society by all these feel good groups. I for one am sick of it. No more. And that... plain and simple is why I will fight for ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!

NO MORE bastardizing things the majority of us hold dear.

Lastly, you said "and no one confuses G.W.Bush with God."

Why would anyone? What relevance did that have on anything? I'm truly baffled at that remark. How this came into this conversation is beyond me. Have you ever heard this President ask for that kind of following? OR anyone else who supports him? Where that came from is beyond my imagination. Sorry.. but that was just so far out there.

Why, why, why is there this fanatical, idolatrous devotion among "patriotic," "conservative" Americans for the Pledge? The only reason I can see is that they think, "If we remember it from the Fifties, it must be good."
