ENRON, WorldCom and Martha Stewart just proved that America's financial and accounting systems work. Despite the monstrous cheating and mad-dog greed, the good news about all the scandals we are suffering is that the bad guys - and gals - got caught.

Martha will NEVER be indicted for insider trading as she didn't give anything in return for the info.

(Sex doesn't count - especially at Martha's age.)

As others have said of democracy, our financial and accounting systems may not be perfect, but they're well ahead of anything else out there.
More lip service! And from the NYP this time. It's never ending. And where is the outrage?
Nowhere! Becuse too many don't know, don't care or are too scared to raise a stink.
Kinda hard to miss the smell of a dead skink.

You could argue that the system works; however, you could also argue the possibility that it doesn't work as well as it could.

But they now believe they have a renewed license to plunder the poor around the world.
As if the poor had the financial werewithal to invest in the stock market!
They're POOR! They're more concerned with day to day survival than with investing in the stock market!

the good news about all the scandals we are suffering is that the bad guys - and gals - got caught...no they didn't, Enron collapsed and then everybody got scared and turned on everybody else. They didn't get caught by the authorities while in the process of repeated criminal accounting but only after Enron imploded and the congress threatened and then everyone turned on everyone else. The FBI never caught the unabomber, his brother turned him in. Martha Stewart was interviewed in April, not until her broker's assistant rolled over on them did things get tense. We'll see what punishment the evil doers get for deceiving the public and destroying their employees pensions. Any bets on prison time?

This is the second time I have seen you make this utterly fanciful statement. You obviously know ZERO about this subject.

She may or may not be. But quid pro quo is DEFINITELY not a prerequisite for an insider trading charge.

Glad you are ROTFLYAO. Nice to see the meds are making you feel better.

Never. The real criminal enemy (the State) is really only held accountable in one way: revolution. All else is whitewash (congressional hearings, show trials, "firings", resignations, etc., even impeachment). As long as they occupy Foggy Bottom, we are an occupied people. The Founders tried everything with George III and his minions. Embassies to England, petitions, boycotts, etc. The strangle hold, the taxation and the corruption only got worse. When they ran out of patience, they at least had backbones.

When will they be held accountable?
Only in Tomorrows_Dream's dreams.
Dreams and reality, like oil and water, don't mix.

Headline should read something like....

'America better than Zimbabwe'

This Peters somehow reminds me of Wesley Mouch, but weaker.

The US Government has over 3 Trillion Dollars missing or unaccounted for.

Aw, c'mon, it was all spent buying toilets and hammers for the military. Don't you know that?

Martha PROFITED on her sale of the stock. That's the only thing you have to "get" out of insider trading.

Correct if the tippee is related or has business dealings with the tipper.

So according to you, if Martha overheard an "insider" talking about his company and she acted on the insider info, she goes to jail?

It's not "according to me", I believe it's the law. If you trade on information acquired from corporate insiders that isn't in the public domain, it's illegal.

The truth is that no one ever "overhears" this stuff. It is told to them, because the person doing the telling knows they own that particular stock, and for the purpose of making or saving them money. It's that simple. Insider trading isn't complicated-- and it doesn't depend on what the meaning of "is" is.
