I'll bet this is at least as common than pedophile priests, and for the same reason. A deranged individual realizes that he's sick, and puts himself in a profession that he thinks will counteract his evil tendencies, or at least provide an avenue for atonement. But it makes matters worse: the profession actually provides a cover for his crimes, even while it gives him access to victims for his twisted desires.

"I'd love to, but they won't let me," he said, directing inquiries to John Skye, spokesman for the public defender's office, as he was dragged by a choker chain, beaten with a stick and kicked into a cage in the trunk of a car sitting in the hot sun.
that "they won't let me" hangs him in my book.

This makes me absolutely *ill*. How could someone DO those things to an *animal* for no reason?? It wasn't attacking him. Locking it in the trunk of a car on a hot day??? I have cats and the thought of someone doing this to mine makes me just want to cry! This just makes me ill!! *gag*.
