Let's Be Honest, Pledge Is A Stretch

Having to recite the Pledge of Allegiance as a youngster often gave me the willies. Thought it was a damn lie. Still do, though I stand patiently at attention and wait for the disingenuous routine to end.

Unlike the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, I have no problem with the "one nation under God" part of the pledge. A heathen like me is all for more spirituality. I just have difficulty mustering any conviction for the part about "with liberty and justice for all." I find that to be a bit of a reach.

Would the author like

a) To have the government tell him what to do
b) Have individual freedom

He thinks the Pledge is a) but really the court decision is.

Let's face it, there's nothing sacred about the Union, any more than any other political union held together with force. In reality, it's "two nations, under God,", and when the Mexicans finish with the Southwest, three.

To our servicemen on a battlefield fighting for our freedom, that "Pledge of Allegiance" means everything.

You damn socialist SOB!

The pledge sets forth some ideals to strive for. There is no perfect union nor any guarantee that it will stay that way if achieved. Those who profit by professing their own inequality will never strive for "liberty and justice for all".

You must be confused, upon enlisting you take an oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies; foriegn and domestic". Nothing in there about the PoA.

One has to wonder about such drivel from black liberals. Just how much liberty and how much justice existed in the USSR? How much exists today in China? And how much exists in Africa?

Judges are Wack outs
Constitution says Congress can't establish an official religion . That means one SPECIFIC SECT not that God can't be mentioned

Let us also be honest about the pledge. It didn't exist until 1892, and was created by a socialist. The words "under god" were added in 1954 after intense lobbying. None of the founding fathers would recognize it, and the words "one nation, indivisible" were specificly included to insure that children would be indoctrinated against the belief that the South may have been right in the Civil War.

Indoctrinations of our youth have powerful emotional appeals, but only the words "with liberty and justice for all" mean much to me, and almost certainly not what they meant to the socialist author.

No, You are confused. We learn the "Pledge Of Allegiance" as small children. We take the "Oath" when we enter military service.

Now, when this flag was raised, What were this men thinking about? The "Oath" or the "Pledge of Allegiance"?

I kinda like the JPFO pledge:

THE FREEDOM PLEDGE

I pledge my honor to the Bill of Rights, our precious national treasure.

As the Bill is a fortress against tyranny, I will battle all tyrants.

As the Bill protects liberty, I will live free.

As the Bill guards rights born within all humanity, I will defend the freedoms of future generations.

With my life, my words, and my daily deeds, with a vision of what can be, I honor all of the Bill of Rights for all mankind.

The Freedom Pledge and all contents of this alert are © 2002 Aaron Zelman. You may reproduce The Freedom Pledge alone or reproduce the alert in its entirety, as long as you include this full copyright statement and attribution. The Freedom Pledge was created by Aaron Zelman and Claire Wolfe for Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, P.O. Box 270143 Hartford, WI 53027, Phone (262) 673-9745 Fax: (262) 673-9746. To learn more about how you can defend the Bill of Rights, go to http://www.jpfo.org.

Dang, Aaron, I almost forgot the attribute.

I'm a Christian member of the JPFO, the NRA, the GOA, and the AARP(as a pain-in-the-ass).

I found this very interesting. On a previous thread, I commented that 'Political-Correctness' was not an accident, but a plan!

* That Americans are now stopped on the highways and searched without warrants, just like people were in Nazi Germany;

* That taxes eat up almost half of everyone's income (and some analysts say it's a lot more than half, once you examine the hidden taxes on goods and services);

* That the FBI and other agencies are now snooping to see what books you read, purchases you make, how you use your credit cards, and what hobbies you pursue;

* That we're about to get a new Homeland Security cabinet department -- a Soviet-style KGB internal security apparatus that's planned to be above many of the laws (like the Freedom of Information Act and the whistleblower protection law) that protect the public from abusive agencies;

* That politicians are using weasel words to destroy the Second Amendment -- spouting their support for "individual rights" while advocating laws that destroy those very rights (See "Second-Amendment Setup: What They Say Isn't What You Get" at http://www.jpfo.org/2nd-setup.htm )

* That the U.S. is becoming more like the countries our veterans fought against in World War II and other wars (See "An Open Letter to Our Fathers and Grandfathers: You Won the Battle but Lost the War" at http://www.jpfo.org/veterans.htm ;

* That government increasingly wants to control everything you do, say -- and even what you think.

You can also remind people that, on June 26, 2002 a panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declared that it was unconstitutional for schools to lead children in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag because the words "under God" are religious.

Now, I know some readers of JPFO alerts believe the pledge is vital and even sacred and others don't like the pledge for various reasons. We could argue about the value of the Pledge of Allegiance all day, and whether it "establishes a religion" or whether the "under G-d"* clause is simply a recognition that our rights come from some greater source than government.

But one thing we can all agree on -- the government has gone way, way, way too far in telling the people and the states what they can and can't do. And it's going to go a lot further if we don't stop it.

The panel's ruling is on hold pending challenges and possible review by the full Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. If the ruling stands, the traditional pledge will be on its way out of government schools and other government-controlled places. Even if the ruling doesn't hold, the patriotism represented by the old pledge is becoming "politically incorrect," so that schools are dropping the pledge or even replacing it with various New Age and One World gobbledegook.

Let's prepare to give the world a new pledge that will stop tyrants in their tracks. Let's have a pledge that we and our children can recite proudly. Let it be a pledge that the Big Government Boys and Girls will hate, detest, loathe, and cringe away from, but whose language they don't dare declare illegal -- because to do that they'd have to come out and openly say they hate the Bill of Rights. Let's adopt The Freedom Pledge .

Food for thought, kids. Stay well armed and vigilant...........FRegards

I hate like hell that a leftist court is trying to administer one mouthy atheists will over an historical practice of patriotism, but let's be real about something here...Liberalism in this nation has turned our once patriotic populace into a miserably apathetic and sometimes cowardly lot. Where in WWII it would be unheard of to run scared from your Nation's call to arms, today a good 35% of high school and college students say they would do just that.

I recall back in school the way boys would cut up and goof off at the most solumn observances, even pledging allegiance to our flag. In most of my school years, doing the pledge was largely ignored and forgotten.

Rather than a pledge of allegiance every morning, how's about we make certain that every school play the Star Spangled Banner over their loudspeakers to start the day? I know this doesnt address the "Under God" part (which, to ME, is the center of the fight), but this would KEEP patriotism alive while the battle over the pledge is waged to reinstate the RIGHT to school prayer and all things religious that a student may want to participate in.

Remember, it's Freedom OF Religion, not Freedom FROM Religion!

"I believe Native Americans would beg to differ with the pledge's summation."

I'm a Native American...a white guy born right here in the good ol' USA...and I have no problem whatsoever with any part of the pledge. What a maroon...
