"People are afraid they feel intimidated and offended when they see the flag," Felton Barnes of the SCLC said.

This proves the NAACP has lost it's mandate and have not advanced with the times. "Colored people" have advanced but the NAACP has slithered back into old Jim Crow patterns and ways of thinking.

Their description of how some blacks feel about the flag brings to mind the racist term coon. I am embarrassed to continue to read stories of this issue with the NAACP. This money could be better spent by assisting inner city programs and promoting the development of young talent.

I was never aware that the NAACP had any mandate. It has always been supported mainly by white communists rather than black Americans anyway. Its founder was a communist and its current president is a communist.

Black Americans could kill off the NAACP's undue influence on politics and culture, but nobody else can do so. It wouldn't even take a majority of black Americans to accomplish the demise of this phony organization. A determined minority could do it.

"People are afraid they feel intimidated and offended when they see the flag," Felton Barnes of the SCLC said.

"Intimidated?"

"Intimidated?"

I'm sorry that they feel intimidated. But if they are intimidated by a piece of cloth, then I truly feel sorry for them.

There are so many problems within the black communities around the nation. Single parenthood, substandard schools, poor investment knowledge, gang violence, corrupt black politicians, and an overall acceptance of mediocrity abound in the black community just for starters.

Add on such medical problems as AIDS, alcoholism, drug addiction, and poor pre-natal care, and you begin to scratch the surface of the problems and issues that the NAACP should be addressing. But they go for the "easy targets" like the Confederate Flag, and allow themselves to be led around by race warlords like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Cynthia McKinney and Kwesi Mfume by the nose like a bull being led to the slaughterhouse.

What's even sadder is that there are true black leaders like Kevin Martin, Jesse Peterson, Roy and Niger Innis, J.C. Watts, Ken Hamblin and dozens upon dozens of others who live productive lives. Who live the American Dream. Who do not live in the shadow cast by the warlords and their lemmings.

And my wife's aunt wonders why She-who-must-be-obeyed and I refuse to join the NAACP. Feh.

Okay, we compromised. As did General Forrest, we removed the center star from the Confederate Battle Flag. Now the NAACP doesn't have to feel offended, or threatened, or whatever.

And now we can fly it all the time, just to show them how accomodating we can be...

Rebel re-enactor with a cause

Willie Levi Casey Jr. of Spotsylvania re-enacts as a Confederate private
with the 6th North Carolina State Troop. Casey's unit participated yesterday
in a re-enactment of the 1862 Battle of Beaver Dam Creek.

Willie Casey (second from right) says people don't understand why he joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans. 'People say to me, "Do you support slavery?" I say, "No. I support preserving Southern history and telling it the way it is."

ROCKVILLE--In the Hanover County woods where men in blue and men in gray are shooting at each other, it's all noise and smoke and stink.

Across a field there's cannon fire so loud it resets your heartbeat for you. Horses whicker, and men shout. Fog-thick gunpowder smoke gives off a rotten-egg reek.

For Confederate Pvt. Casey of the 6th North Carolina State Troop, a Civil War re-enactment unit, the conflict is all external.

In real life, the Rebel private is Maj. Willie Levi Casey Jr. of the U.S. Army--a tasty bit of irony if you're looking for it.

But Casey sees no irony at all in re-enacting as a 19th-century soldier in gray and being a 21st-century African-American.

Casey, a 40-year-old resident of Spotsylvania County's Chancellor area, is a Southerner by birth and proud of it by choice.

He's been re-enacting since 1997 and was welcomed as a full member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp No. 1722 two years ago.

It all makes sense, he said, if you view the Civil War not as a textbook struggle between good and evil, but as the nuanced conflict it truly was.

"Look at the mentality of a black person in the South" at the time of the Civil War, Casey said. That person's ancestors might have been living in the South for 150 years before the war.

In such a case, he said, "You may be a Southerner by force, but you are a Southerner."Continue Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star

The NAACP won't be happy until they've removed "south" from the compass.

There are so many problems within the black communities around the nation. Single parenthood, substandard schools, poor investment knowledge, gang violence, corrupt black (all races) politicians, and an overall acceptance of mediocrity abound in the black (once again, all races)community just for starters.

What people fail to recognize is that we are all in this boat together.  I, and most people I know, are not "rich white folk".  We work hard and get by with just getting bills paid.  Black folks and white folks have a whole lot more in common than not.  I may be nieve, but I think that if we'd just show respect for each other and, I don't like to use the word "judge", but, judge people for what is in their heart and not what color their skin is then our country could turn around.  There would be no reason for the naacp.  I thank God for my dad because that is how he lived his life.  He didn't care what race you were or how rich or poor you were, etc ... He looked at a person's heart.  He had the respect of so many people.  I try to live like that but I don't think I'll ever live up to his example.
