The SADC NGO Council has called for a constitutional review in Zimbabwe to ensure good governance. The Council is the umbrella body of NGO's in Southern Africa. Concluding their two- day meeting in Johannesburg which focussed on issues relating to the region, the council committed itself to engaging with the regimes that still ignore the will of the people. With Africa in the spotlight this week after the G8 summit in Canada, the SADC council of non-governmental organisations did not mince its words regarding Zimbabwe, a country seen by many as the litmus test for Africa's development programme Nepad.
The Council also has concerns about other countries in the region. Swaziland, Malawi and Namibia were criticised for a lack of freedom of expression and attempts by some leaders to entrench their power by changing the constitution.
The Council also said most of the problems plaguing the continent, poverty, famine, HIV/AIDS and human rights violations, were worsened by weak or corrupt leadership.
Boy NOTHING gets by these guys! What next the sun raises in the east?
