Why we should be worried about George W Bush
29jun02
THE world outside the US is now getting used to the fact Americans have a fraudulently elected nitwit as their president, but George W. Bush excelled himself this week with a "long-awaited" definitive speech on Middle East policies that stretched even the weirdest imaginations.
BRUCE WILSON in London reports:
US embassies around the world moved to "explain" the batty future Bush saw for Israel and Palestine, but nothing could disguise that the bedbug was running the White House and anything could happen next.Hey, look. Even Tom Cruise is worried. In London this week he said he wanted his adopted kids brought up outside the USA because of what happens inside the USA. He listed terrorism and street crime, but very cogently he listed corporate crime as a reason not to bring up kids in the old US of A.
Now, Tom Cruise is not a Grade A rocket scientist. In fact, he is a Grade A Scientologist. On the whole, though, I would say he was brighter than George W. Bush (along with my neighbour's catatonic cat) and it was most intriguing that he named corporate crime as a reason not to want to grow up in America.
The WorldCom affair comes after the Enron affair while the Andersen affair simply defies belief. It has become perfectly clear that major US corporations have been running out of control, throwing billions of dollars into a kind of international financial black hole.
In vain you ask (as I tried to do), well, where has the money gone? I mean, if you back a loser at Randwick, then you know where your money went. If these companies have lost billions $US3.8 billion in the case of WorldCom why hasn't somebody won it? Or got it? Where has it gone? Or, more to the point, did it ever exist?
Of course it did, said the Doormouse. Otherwise, it could never have been lost and 17,000 people sacked for the lack of it. This is Alice in Wonderland stuff, capitalism rattling around like a high-velocity round in a mental vacuum. Where was government? Where was control?
Twenty years ago, when I lived in Washington, the US was said to have a trillion-dollar-a-day economy that was so strong not even government could screw it. Now, you have to ask if things have turned, that apparent fraudsters like WorldCom can screw government.
Dubya Bush seems reluctant to address these issues. He is a Texan (although not by breeding) and there they let things take their course, execute mentally deficient minors, and generally behave like good old boys, taking the Chevy to the levee.
If it were not for September 11, Bush would be in serious political trouble in America. He may be yet, in the mid-term November elections. His shocked nation rallied around him as the personification of The Flag when the atrocities stunned us all. His personal rating broke all records.
Since then, though, what? On this side of the Atlantic he is seen as a kind of strange joke. Britons try to understand him, but in Europe they simply think of him as a sort of circus act. The Middle East pronouncement was so absurd they didn't know whether to laugh or simply ask the US senior political attache over for a commiserating drink.
These concerns are based on the belief that seems to be proven that Washington itself is a divided city. Colin Powell, in State, is trying to plead reason over the clamouring voices in Defence, led by Donald Rumsfeld, clearly a man not always entirely in control of his senses.
Bush is listening to Rumsfeld, and other strange voices not least the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon. And, as he does, the US looks more and more to be a long way away from the rest of the world.

Ever notice the similarities between the overseas assessment of Bush's presidency and and that of Reagan's? I'm not saying GW is Reagan, but the world seems to need to bring the US president down a peg when he demonstrates any sort of fortitude.
This "article" displays a rant typical of the international numbskull: Bush is dumb, which is why Tom Cruise is right to fear white collar crime. This guy needs some medication.

Euro-Aussebarf Alert is right...big time!!! This entire article is nothing but a lot of incoherent babbling:
bedbug...Tom Cruise...catatonic cat...Enron, blah, blah, blah...Doormouse (!?).
Somehow I was able to stay with him through all that to get to his main point:
Bush is listening to Rumsfeld, and other strange voices not least the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.
Thanks for posting this. The true agenda of the loony left keeps making itself more and more apparent.
To: mhking
I forgot that corporate fraud is exclusively an American thing...ohhh except for that multi-billion dollar bankruptcy of that British Investment Bank... was it Barclay's?
To: mhking
What a loony freakin socialist mindset.
Where was government? Where was control?
I believe the government at the time was busy losing $6 billion in fraud in waste in a single department - the department of education.
Yep, we want the gov't involved in oversight of business.
Oh! Isn't that the definition of fascism? I'm sure this guy would be one of the first to call GW a fascist, and not realize that the namecaller himself is in support of such things.

Tom Cruise is worried about street crime, he ought to come back to the good ol' US of A, where street crime is a third of the level in the UK. Just recently, his neighbor was assaulted in her home and he personally went running after the thieves, who got $140,000 in jewels. Now, what he would've done, if he'd caught up to the thieves is another question, since handguns are outlawed in Britain. I guess he could stare angrily at the thugs.

You are exactly right. However, maybe we should pity him just a bit. I mean, it's obvious he is suffering from MPD. He was just a little confused when he wrote it. Rule #1 on writing or speaking when you you have MPD. Only let one personality at a time come out to play!

It amazes me that this author, as well as many other liberals, have the audacity to blame Bush for the corporate scandals that have taken place. When Bush became president, it's not as if these companies began their dishonest practices. In fact much of this began during the Clinton presidency. Whether liberals understand this or are just using it to hang Bush, the American public and the world as a whole has seemed to accept that Bush is responsible, even though he has been in office for lees than 2 years.

Mr. Cruise needs to worry about his movies and less on politics. Every now and then a popular person speaks up about something they have no clue about. The latest duet by Mr. Cruise and Mr. Spielberg should have been awesome but the numbers clearly show they're losing popularity in the movie department. Like I said, "Worry about your movies".
As for the Bush bashing. The Democrats want to overthrow Bush and this is their only tactic. Mr. Gore is super mad at the previous election and wants revenge. BOO HOO, get over it.
Sincerely,
Superfly

The author of this is so ignorant that I feel pity for him. He appears to get whatever political knowledge he thinks he has from some combination of comic strips, rock songs, and celebrity interviews. He didn't even make an actual discernible point in this article. It's clear that he sure does fancy himself quite the clever wordsmith, however.
Not worth the time I've already wasted on it.

I agree with this guy 100% - calling Bush a nitwit is too kind. You agree with unsubstantiated name-calling. Fantastic. How old are you?
The author sure was good at calling Bush stupid, but he never actually got around to substantiating any criticisms of Bush. What has Bush done that the author disagrees with? Why is Bush wrong? The author doesn't say. Why? Because the author can't say, lacking sufficient knowledge and/or argumentative skills.
And you "agree with this guy". Fantastic.
Look, Bush has sent the economy into the dumper...
Look, what the heck does that mean? Bush is President, not "Economy Czar". The economy does not rise or fall depending on the mood or charms of the President or how much he pleases you. Further, if you think that Bush has done something to harm the economy, then go ahead, please tell us all what Bush did, and why it was wrong, and how it harmed the economy. Details, please.
Don't just toss out cartoonish characterizations like "Bush sent the economy into the the dumper". For all the rational content of this statement you may as well be saying "Bush failed to please the Economy Gods and now they seek vengeance". Is pseudo-paganistic mysticism really the extent of your analysis, or do you have anything rational to say?
if it wasn't for his War on Terrorism, his poll ratings would be in the teens!
This may or may not be true. Counterfactual hypotheticals are not very informative. Relevance?

BTW: This is linked to on the DrudgeReport; therefore, you'll get a lot of leftist posts on this thread. Also isn't it amazing how these Corporate SCAMS happened under the Clinton ERA and under Bush we are finding out about them because the SEC is finally catching these crooks? It's like the word in corporate america is come clean now before the SEC and Bush prosecute you like they did Anderson. But somehow the twisted logic of the left is this is the fault of the current President. I guess it's his fault if you wanted him to allow the scandal to continue unnoticed.

"there is hope!"
Not for you, appearently.
To: Dr. Frank
You mean there is no "Economic Command and Control Center" in the White House basement?
To: bubba1966
I guess I'm missing something here: Bubba, the author of the Telegraph piece, and others deride Mr. Bush as a "nitwit" or as "stupid." I'm hard-pressed to see why. Mr. Bush has an MBA degree, ran a couple businesses (earning a reputation for honesty and integrity in a cut-throat business), was governor of a large, diverse state, and now is president. To become president he managed to beat the incumbent vice-president in a time of peace and prosperity. One would think that to accumulate this sort of resume you'd have to be at least average smart.
Now then: could Bubba, or others, please explain how it is that Mr. Bush is a nitwit? And please, no pointing to his speech patterns, as there are plenty of intelligent people who are less than graceful public speakers.
As a bonus question, Bubba, please explain to us how a President Gore would have prevented the recession (which began, according to some, in the Fall of 2000). I'd like specifics: what would a President Gore actually have DONE?
It's like this: either one resorts to name-calling, or one lays out a cogent case as to why one is right. What I've heard from the left so far (including Molly Ivins and Maureen Dowd) is a lot of name-calling, and really not that much of a case.
So set the record straight, Bubba: why is President Bush a nitwit?
To: Lee_Atwater
You mean there is no "Economic Command and Control Center" in the White House basement? Silly me, what was I thinking. There must be.
After all, we all remember the Golden Clinton Years, when the reason we all had prosperity was namely because Clinton himself "focused like a laser" on the economy!
Right? ;)

And has maintained high numbers longer than any as well.
In spite of your Dumbocrat buddies throwing everything in their arsenal at him...such as your phoney accusation above.

Its clear, this "War on Terrorism" is a fraud.I guess you were asleep on 9/11? Read the Al Queda Training Manual, go get a history book about 9/11/2001, wake up, then shut up. It takes alot more than a "rag-tag band of criminals" to murder that many people in cold blood.
As someone who lost a classmate in that tragedy, I'm offended that you troll about casually insulting the memory of those who died. It was terrorism, and thank God we have a President who will fight it, unlike Clinton who would only support a single cause, protecting his personal interests, at the expense of all humanity.
To: devilsadvct33
I'm always amazed when people accuse George W. Bush of a lack of intelligence. George Bush went to Yale. I'm a pretty bright woman, but I couldn't get into Yale and get through its rigorous courses. George Bush went to Harvard and got an MBA. I didn't go to Harvard, either, and I don't think I could earn an MBA there or anywhere else. George Bush drove fighter aircraft. I couldn't fly a fighter to save my life, but I know it's not a job for a fool. George Bush ran one of the largest, toughest states in the Union, a state with an economy larger than that of most Western European nations. Again, I couldn't do that, no matter how many advisors I had. I suspect strongly that this limey leftist couldn't, either.
So why do they insult him? Two reasons, I'd venture. First, in their view, anybody who is conservative must necessarily be stupid or dishonest or both, because all decent and intelligent people are leftists. Second, anybody who has a Texas accent must necessarily be stupid, because everyone knows that Southerners are ignorant, uncultured, unread, unwashed cowboys. Of course, this goes for most Americans, too.
Besides, it's so much fun insulting the Americans. It gives the wretched, downtrodden French and British a reminder of the superiority they've long since had to give up.

Bubba, before you slither back to DU to give them your "intel" report on this site, at least get your facts straight. 9/11 happened because of the many terrorist attacks on this country under your hero's watch, such as the 93 WTC bombing, 2 embassy bombings, USS Cole and a couple more. All of these apparantly could have been handled by local police organizations. Why didn't X42 take care of it then? As for Enron and WorldCom, you better check out when the accounting irregularities started. But then, you haven't answered other posts asking exactly what Al Bore would have done? I too anxiously await your insight.

Here's my reply to Brucie-Boy sent today after first becoming aware of what he's written and then his defense:
F*** you! How's that for an invective?
Generally we like the Aussies, because they're not pansies, but you give them a bad name. We don't sit around all day rubbing our hands about your president; we're too busy trying to create more wealth for you to consume off of our backs.
I think the real problem with you is that you're a Socialist and your ideas have been proven wrong again and again, but then empirical evidence doesn't matter to those baptized into a religion of feelings rather than results. You Socialists are far worse than red-necks. At least red-necks pull their own weight. (Gee, I wonder if the whole continent of Australia wouldn't be considered red-neck country). I'd watch who you pick a fight with Brucie-boy.

"Gee, I wonder..."
Ever heard of 'affirmative action'? In this case, for rich white alumni.
What's your problem with that? I'll bet you love political selection processes at universities, as long as they're driven by advanced European thinking and Marxist class-analysis. Confess.
I realize you only came to troll, but a 36 year-old ought to have developed more mature hobbies.
Then again, perhaps you are simply an anthrophobic youth, stewing in your self-hating juices.
In any event, good day and farewell! ;^)

What happened to Bubba's posts? They were deleted.
Anyway, I wanted to reply to him about the war on terrorism being a joke.
I guess he thought FBI field agents armed with 9mm pistols and handcuffs should go 'arrest' thousands of afgahni and al quaida soldiers armed with ak-47's, rpg's, and stinger missiles? I guess when Bin Laden's guards at the cave entrance see the agents' search warrant, they'll say, "Oh ok, come on in". Or maybe it would be a coalition along with the brits. They don't carry guns but they do have some pretty dangerous clubs.
Bubba, make like a bank and have some sense. Stop mindlessly sucking down propaganda and actually think for yourself. Everything you say is unoriginal. You present no unique ideas. You are just repeating prepackaged BS, most of which is usually nothing but insults directed at the president's intelligence or american intelligence and values in general.
Just because you wear clothes made of hemp, have no understanding of basic economics, live on the campus of a liberal arts college living off your parents' wealth, and think Al Gore actually gives a damn about saving the whales, it doesn't mean you are smarter than everybody else.
I think 9/11 opened up many americans eyes to the general hypocrisy of the left, and I hope Al Gore runs in '04. I think the margin would be a little wider this time around. I think part of the reason is at one time or another after 9/11 every american asked themselves, "I wonder how Gore would've handled this?"
