About what one would expect from a piece of crap like Commentary. Actually, the Saudis have held down the price of crude for several years.

An informative article, but it is easier to point out the problem than to face the solution. "Can the U.S., then, revamp its policy toward Saudi Arabia ... such an about-face would hardly be easy—if for no other reason than that many of the royal family are close friends of powerful Americans in the oil and defense industries, on university campuses, and within government."

No, it would not be easy, and if it isn't easy, no one wants to do it. The above sentence delicately points out the financial interests which entrench Saudi influence. I think we would all be amazed if we knew how far their money goes, and what it buys.

Good Article.
My oldest son is at Prince Sultan AFB in Saudi.
U.S. Military there has been asked to leave the country.
We should be out of there by the end of September.
Remember to pray for our troops and our leaders.

A great article! Crystallized and gave voice to many of the thoughts I had been entertaining. His pointing out how a new, fledgling democratic Iraq would help to destabilize the corrupt and flaccid Saudi regime is an especially realistic and appealing scenario.
Again, a really good piece. What is this guy teaching classics for?

while we were distracted by the left's attack on richard nixon and the vietnam war,

the saudis and others formed opec. we're paying through the nose for that one.

then jimmy carter lost iran.

it's all been downhill since.
