I've long been of the opinion that the Middle East was put here to show us what would become of us if we were really bad. I don't think any further confirmation is required.

This is also a confirmation of another important point: piety is no guarantee of anything. Middle Eastern Muslims exceed most other peoples in religiosity, but they exceed all other peoples in wanton savagery, as we have come to learn.

Has anyone heard anything more about the woman who was sentenced to death by stoning by an Islamic court for the "crime" of having been raped?

There was another long thread about this, quoting from a different source, yours is more detailed. Imagine that girl, her own father turning her over to those rapists, for the alleged sins of her 11 year -old brother. She's gang-raped and then has to somehow walk home naked in front of a thousand people, including her family members just standing there.

Unless she can get out of there somehow, her life is ruined and for what? What did her 11 year-old brother really do? Probably nothing. And why was she the scapegoat? That poor girl...

The punishment makes perfect sense once you buy into the collectivist notion that offenses are committed by, and to, groups of people, and that justice is to be negotiated between those groups, and that one has no important identity outside of those groups. And that is a notion just as popular on the campuses of the universities in the United States as it is among tribal extremists in Afghanistan.
