In NY, the crescent moon and planet was clearly visible in the eastern sky during the a.m. of Sept. 11, 2001. It may have been visible a day or 2 or so even before that, but I first noticed it when I awoke at about 5:35 a.m. on the morning of 911. It was shining so clearly out my kitchen window as I started making coffee. I thought it looked so pretty. The planet was just as clear right next to the crescent moon, to the right of it. I knew immediatety I had seen the crescent and a star to the right of it in my atlas pages of flags of all nations. But I didn't get around to looking at the atlas to see what nations that config represented until Sept. 12th....I was preoccupied as was the rest of the world to the events of that day.

Here's the data for New York city. Without knowing when sneaker looked at the sky, I can't find the star he/she is referring to:
