Re: that brown plastic necklace They were a big fad two summers ago. The thing is, most girls drop these fads, almost as fast as they pick them up.

It is possible that someone outside the family unit may have given it to her, and Danielle started treating it as a personal talisman. If she kept wearing it for two years after it was popular, it must have developed some special meaning for her.

The really odd thing is that it didn't break in those intervening years. Those plastic loops weren't the most sturdy of things - my daughter went through two of them - how did that one last so long if she wore it all the time?

Maybe she had more than one. I too can't imagine it lasting that long. There are stress factures in cheap little necklaces over time..OR the texture deteriates because of sweat, showers etc..and changes colors.
