MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- A man believed to be the stepson of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Miami on a visa violation, according to an Immigration and Naturalization Service source.
Mohammed Saffi was interviewed at length by the Florida joint terrorism task force, made up of the FBI and the INS, as well as state and local law enforcement authorities. Late Wednesday he was transferred to the Krome Detention Center in Miami.

According to the INS source, Saffi entered the country legally, under a visa waiver program, to attend an aviation course but was arrested on a visa violation. And people wonder how 9-11 happened.

"According to the INS source, Saffi entered the country legally, under a visa waiver program, to attend an aviation course..."Aren't these guys interested in anything but "aviation"? That whould be an automatic disqualification if I had anything to say about it. Muslims wanting to study aviation, sorry, the courses are all full.

If Saffi is who he is purported to be, it is beyond crazy, it is gross malfeasance. Heads should roll.

I don't know much about Middle Eastern culture, but I would also ask, "Don't they have flight schools in your own country?"

I wouldn't ask. If they don't have flight schools (which seems bogus) they don't have airliners. They do have airliners, which obviously require trained and skilled pilots. Highly unlikely that all of their pilots come from NON-mideastern nations. To study HERE gives them LOADS of info on our terrain, landmarks, and ACCESS to them.
This incident is a total travesty and a slap in the face of every citizen of our nation. The STEP-SON of the ONE guy that Bush marks as the LEADER of the PRIME component of the "Axis of Evil" gets a freaking WAIVER on his VISA...and to attend flight school?! God help us, because our gubmint sure as heck isn't going to.

Well this makes a lot of sense; let in the stepson of Saddam Hussein!! No wonder we got hit on 9/11 and we'll surely get hit again if our government doesn't change the way they are doing things. (like that's going to happen anytime soon!)

The Saudi's are building a flight school now. Previously they went to either Europe or here to learn to fly. The sheik said that his fellow Muslims felt discriminated against here so they needed to build their own school there⦠After the first hijacker is caught from that school, it should be leveled.

Don't they have flight schools in your own country? When I was in Saudi Arabia, all of the chopper pilots were Americans. 100%. And all of the Saudi Airline maintenance was done by Brits. Beyond that, I don't know.

It gets worse--read the story update. How many times has this guy been allowed to fly into LAX with Air New Zealand, and why was he allowed to travel from LA to Miami? Preposterous.

consitering how many members of Saddams nuclear family have been executed over the years, I don't think we need assume this guy is a terrorist.
Chances are pretty good this guy hates Saddam as much as anyone else does

What? No electives offered here in "Effective High-Jacking, Veering Off-course, and Taking Out the Tallest Skyscrapers In America With a Commercial Airliner?" How thoroughly insensitive and intolerant we are, indeed. Gosh, if only we'd have the sense to follow the enlightened Saudis on appropriate treatment of ALL people? (For instance, I can't wait until they legislate human status for women...so we can learn from them about equal rights. Oh, and then there's that nit-picking little piece of legislation that I'm practically chomping at the bitt to hear about where the Saudis provide FREEDOM of RELIGION to NON-Muslims. Oh, and then there's that FREEDOM of SPEECH. Hey, a girl can dream, no??)
I'm sure as heck not going to discriminate against (i.e., treat someone badly) strictly because of his personal religion (because core values of my religion and my nation's culture were so imparted to me from 'day one'). But, I'm also sure as heck not going to bury my head in Saudi sand and ignore the double-standard that those opecker princes apply when dealing with THEIR and OUR citizens.
It becomes rather 'trying' being compelled to discern any good in the intentions of a nation (and, hence, their respective citizenry's) which rationalizes the murdering and maiming of our American brothers and sisters who have no influence on their political interests, and of a nation which is strongly controlled via their state religion's zealot leaders, particularly when they manipulate that state religion to rationalize annihilating innocent American citizens--and oppressing freedoms of their own people. They treat their own people SO darned well. yep. indeed ;-) That's why they all want to live HERE. Anyway, I will remain 'suspicious' of NON-AMERICAN Muslims who come here (especially from the mideast) until, as individuals, they prove that their basic morality and ethics are on par with ours.
