I have always been exceedingly suspicious about that "accident" where a missile, said to be off-course, hit an El Al plane over Russia. Not long after Sept 11.

Does anyone know where they plane was at the time? I believe that traffic out of Israel flies over "PA territory", and of course over the int'l waters of the Med. Then it may go over Turkey and eastern Europe to get to Moscow. Not sure if it flies over the Muslim provinces of the former USSR.

No, just anoher isolated incident on a day of other isolated incidents against the same airline.

Leonid Minin is being held by Italy so he didn't sell anyone the missile. The Israelis should ask Semyon Yukovich Mogilevich who his recent clients have been. Or maybe Grigori Loutchansky knows something.

If it had hit it would have just been another center fuel tank explosion.

Witnesses told of an orange streak going up --- 47%
Witnesses told of an orange streak going down --- 29%
Witnesses told of a missile passing left to right --- 12%
Witnesses who believed Bill Clinton --- ... oops, wrong thread.

Minister Sneh Says the El Al Pilot Saw a Missile (IsraelNN.com)
Minister of Transportation Ephraim Sneh stated on Friday afternoon that he has debriefed the pilot of the El Al flight who reported seeing a surface-to-air missiles explode near the plane last night while in international air space over Russia. Sneh, a retired IDF brigadier-general explained the El Al pilot is a veteran Israel Air Force fighter pilot, a person who knows how to differentiate between aeronautical or weather entities and a missile.
Mr. Sneh stated that the pilot's report is credible, adding the missile exploded kilometers from the plane. The minister added that at this time, there is no reason to believe the firing of the missile was an act intended to down the plane

Was it "kilometers from the plane", or "next to the plane"? I've seen both statements on this thread.

Look at the bright side of this one. The FBI is not investigating this one. It would be labeled an isolated incident. After they discredited the eyewitness accounts.

Did they fly over France?

It was probably just a short in the fuel tank.

Just think … if the missile had hit the plane, the FBI and NTSB would have their corroborating “evidence” of another defective fuel tank explosion.
