From your link:
Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which requires the State Department to run the program, was sponsored by Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) in 1990 and signed into law by President George Bush. Anybody remember why Bush the Elder signed this thing?

The immigration insanity continues......

Police records show officers were called to the apartment on May 19, 1996, over a domestic dispute. They found Hadayet and his wife "had been involved in a physical confrontation." My, my, my. Sounds like another moslem beating his wife. No wonder they make them wear veils...

"Wait... that's our policy now!" Unfortunately you are correct now we shall see can we be smart enough to change the policy or are we too stupid as a nation to survive.

The only reason to dance around that definition of his actions is what? To avoid backlash? To keep folks marching to the airport and sheepishly handing over the nail-clippers? Maybe another reason is to not have to pay out the 1.6 million dollar federal payouts to victims. The 9-11 payout no doubt set a precendent.

Now they have a lottery for it? You have to admit, terrorists do add "diversity" to our cultureAnd we can bet the rent, that their are many, many others, with fanatic, pit bull tempers, just waiting to go off to contribute to their cause. The best way to go undetected, it to remain alone, out of the group. The potential for there being thousands of these individuals among us, is incredible.

Anybody remember why Bush the Elder signed this thing? May have been part of the Immigration Act signed in 1990 which besides the diversity lottery, raised legal immigration numbers to almost 1 million annually. It was done according to its sponsors as a way of cutting down on illegal immigration by offering more legal visas, but all it did was increase immigration overall because illegals continue to pour in.
Brilliant plan by the eggheads in Washington.

An Egyptian male, once rejected by the INS for permanent residency... and he's not on the FBI's watch list? Good post, Saber. I agree with you.

The agency began deportation procedures, but in 1997, Hadayet was granted permanent residency through his wife, Hala, who received an immigration visa through the Department of States' Diversity Lottery Program, the Register and Los Angeles Times reported. Another reason to not "celebrate diversity."

"It wasn't clear why."
I agree. Someone must have seen a reason to deny him.

The
Diversity Lottery Program was the brainchild of Ted Kennedy, who saw it as a way to bring in a steady influx of new Democratic voters. Lovely.

What timing. The family runs for safety back to the homeland, Egypt, a week before the guy carries out a terrorist shooting. I was just wondering where they were. Sure adds credence to the "sleeper" theory.
To: aristeides
The goal of the diversity lottery was to balance immigration so no one group would overwhelm our boarders.
The countries which are eligible change with each lottery. Also, the winners still have to file the application. (a felony still disqualifies you)
I wonder what country his wife was from?
To: pabianice
We let people in not based upon who they are or what they can contribute, but because of the color if their skin. Pure, unadulterated racism.Yes, and it was a deliberate decision by the govt, in the interest of diversity and multiculturalism. Kind of sucks doesn't it?

Well take your guess of about 2 different scenarios:
1: He unlawfully entered the country.
2: He immigrated under false pretenses (bad/forged/stolen)
dopcuments.
