Given the advances in PET/MRI and other non-invasive brain scanning technologies, I wonder if it is possible to detect/measure this type of dementia.

Yes, it is. First you look to see if the subject is prone to going around with a towel or table cloth on his/her head. If the answer is "yes', then you know the dementia is present.
