CBS Market Watch "Big Charts" Web Site ^ | 7/10/2002 | MarketWatch.com

12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

Yet, I don't remember the press getting too excited over all of Larry's lawsuits against members of the Clinton administration. Surprise, surprise, the press is biased.

Thank God Almighty that someone is finally speaking out against this partisan witch-hunt on Wall Street, which now could taint the US Vice-PResident by digging into his old Halliburton days. In the name of all that is Holy, VP Cheney already has heart problems, and there is a war to be fought overseas. Why would fellow Americans seem so crazed to file suit on Halliburton. Halliburton will be proven to be on the side of the angels. It's an honest business in a tough arena. Thank God there someone hasn't lost all their senses and realizes any suit against Halliburton is ludicrous.

Well, I wasn't exactly expecting Halliburton to just confess, when confronted by the unstoppable legal powerhouse that is Larry Klayman.

Halliburton is nothing like Enron. In the oil business, but the similarity ends there.

You're right. Halliburton is a nuts and bolts company that makes it's money out in the hot, smelly oil patch, not in the antiseptic cubicles that was Enron.

When I was scanning the wires, I noticed something interesting. When Judicial Watch went after the Clinton, they were called a "right-wing group". Now that JW is going after Cheney, they are now listed as a "public interest group". Sometimes, the media can't help but show its bias.

Not only that ,but remember when someone in Bush 1 looked to see BC's passport from his Oxford nondays. The media almost had a stroke, recalling RNixon. Yet, The Clinton misadministration actually told the SEC to REOPEN the Harkin matter, to try to destroy GW before he was even a blip on the radar screen. (Dick Morris) Has the media said ANYTHING about this NOOOOOOOOOO.
The EVIL DUMS are desperately trying to dig up something to cause GW problems. CARVILLE. Lockhart et al are busy with their gutter minds busy at work.

I guess they have forgotten about the WAR. But, they were really pissed about the TT disaster. How could their buddies the terrorists blow their agenda. They are counting on the American public losing interest in protecting the nation.

Exactly. Halliburton does amazingly complicated work. And always the attacks come from people who have no experience in the real world, as if they are clean. Clean only because they have never built, managed or operated anything producing goods or services from which people benefit or gain employment. However, the booking of revenue not yet realized, ala Merck, does get me to wonder why accountants advise that these can be booked somehow. I wish someone could provide understanding as to why from an accounting standpoint, this is OK. Clearly, cost over-runs on construction projects cannot be realized until approved by the client. Perhaps there is some contract language allowing this, but without a clients pre-approval, it seems at least risky and likely fraudulent.

Isn't there some kind of law against filing frivolous lawsuits....especially when all the lawsuits your firm files are politically motivated and you always lose?
