From the same paper on 11 July 2002....

Flag display back up; controversy resumes

The Eight Flags display, the center of controversy two years ago because it included the Confederate battle emblem, is flying again in Harrison County.

County workers, who had been waiting for new flags and hardware to arrive, raised the display Tuesday on the beach where it has flown for decades at the Biloxi-Gulfport line.

The flags, which officials say represent the governments that have ruled the Gulf Coast since 1699, were placed below the eight U.S. flags that have been flying since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Harrison County supervisors voted in May to return the original eight flags, including the Confederate battle emblem.

Boyd James III, president of Keepers of the Pledge, an organization born of the Million Man March, said the group plans to protest the Rebel flag's return. He said the group believes the flag represents hate and racism.

"They've put a battle flag back up, which means the battle is back on," he said, anticipating the fight won't be a pretty one. "The battle just rages; the war never dies."

Many beach-goers on Tuesday said they were glad to see the original flags return.

Gulfport resident Tom Moore, 19, said he liked what he saw when he arrived at his workplace, Life's A Beach Jet Ski rental, just east of the display.

"All those flags are a part of my heritage, my history," he said.

Does the phrase "knock some sense into the bastards" mean ANYTHING to ANYONE anymore?

When did confrontations get swept out the door?

..."about 20 of them". Obviously this country is now filled with nothing but pu**y whipped limp-wristed "talkers and negotiators".

No damned backbone and afraid of pain.

What a pathetic bunch of PC cheerleaders.

Someday you will find that a $Dollar amount fine is well worth it in the long run when these maggots decide they would rather go somewhere else to bitch, whine and moan about nothing in general.

But hey! Nobody really cares anymore, do they?

Well, I want to thank those 20 people and all the other NAACP members for taking a stand against the Rebel Flag.....................without those dumbies there be no South Movement, and Southern folks would not be motivated to learn our Southern Heritage, and the TRUTH about the First War for Southern Independence. THE SOUTH IS RISING AGAIN!!!! HURRAH FOR DIXIE!!

Uh......that's SOUTHERN MOVEMENT.

That's ok - my bro in Gainesville Georgia reports that he has a "Southern Movement" like clockwork....each and every morning.

Thinking of the south, I want to spend another July 4 at Stone Mountain! Un-friggin-forgettable! Unless it's changed, you can bring your own picnic cooler (including your swill of choice...), and ALL rise to the tune of "Dixie"......we don't have this America in Kalifornia.

I have been to Biloxi and I loved the area. I didn't much care for the casino but the people and the fishing was great. I hope to go there again some time when I can aford it. Gulfport is great and I visit the back waters. I WOULD LOVE TO MOVE THERE AND LET YOU SEND UP A LIBERAL UN NORTH IN MY PLACE.
amen

The NAACP keeps going after the Confederate flag because it's it kind of hard to blame whitey for the high crime and teenage pregnancy rates in black neighborhoods.

Yeah, the Confederate flag is a pox on the beaches there, but Black Spring Break is no problem at all. Tell you what, I would rather see an accurate display of what flags the state of Mississippi has flown than 30,000 drunken, violent monkeys scrambling to see who can show his sorry, worthless ass in the most disgusting light.

The people of Mississippi should demand that there be no more "Black Spring Breaks" on their beaches rather than surrendering to the architects of the sort of pseudo-culture who nurture the thinking behind black separatist garbage such as Black Spring Break, Black Miss America, etc.

People who want to participate in such black only crap as that need to go establish their own black only nation in Africa and leave this one in peace.

How dumb are these people? We just voted overwhelmingly to keep the Battle Flag on our State flag. What makes them think we're gonna take that one down?

because the "leaders" are LYING, $$$$$$$$-hungry CREEPS and their followers are, in the main, un-educated in the TRUE history of our shared SOUTH!

more than 100,000 CSA servicemembers "of colour" can't be/were NOT wrong!

MY ancestor was one of those HERO-MARTYRS, a traditional Cherokee warrior, who fought "the filth that came down from the north" till the bitter end!
