A Website Dedicated to Handguns

I just wanted to annouce a website I know about that gives alot of information about many different handguns. I know gun magazines don't always tell the truth about the new flashy handgun models that come out. Sometimes new handguns are junk and not worth a dollar.

Here's one article on the website written by someone who bought the Taurus P140 .40 S&W Handgun:

Taurus P140 Millennium .40

I shot "4 rounds", yes four! and had a catocatastrophiclure, the gun will no longer fire. I pull the trigger and nothing now. I could not believe it. My brother-in-law joined me at an indoor shooting range with a whopping 400 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition to try out in my new PT-140. He was going to base his purchase decision on how well my gun handled. Needless to say, four rounds later he decided not to buy one. I took the gun back to the dealer from which I bought it and they have sent it back to Taurus for repair. I told the dealer that once the gun was returned from the dealer that I would be looking to trade for something different. There is no way that I will keep a gun that completely failed after four rounds were shot from it. I will have to "bite the bullet" and take a loss by trading it but in the long run it will be worth every penny. I DO NOT recommend this weapon to anyone. Currently I've got my eye on the Glock 27 .40 to take the place of the failed PT-140.

Here's another article written about the Glock 21:

Glock 21 .45 ACP

I purchased this wonderful handgun after a 3-month evaluation in which I test fired most popular models from the larger manufacturers. This was to be a self-defense/home protection firearm and therefore reliability, ease-of-use, accuracy, and safety were paramount concerns. The 21 excels in all these categories. Close runners up were the Kimber (any) and the SIG P220. The Glock 21 was just the right choice for me, although the Kimber and SIG are also excellent choices. Here is the lowdown on the Glock 21: Grip is nice if you have medium or large hands (Houge grip is an excellent add-on), very accurate, easy recoil, light weight, good point characteristics, accessible controls (there are none), and easy to take-down and clean. I have put nearly 400 rounds through it without a failure of any kind (and I have fed it some real junk). My only complaint is a minor one that gets better the more you use it, the site picture seems a little “fat”. Point a Beretta downrange and then the 21 and you’ll know what I mean. Just could be crisper. Though purchased originally for home defense, I have found this to be a fun and highly accurate target gun. Overall, an excellent choice, highly recommended.

You can post your own articles about handguns you own on this internet site as well. I have made several posts about handguns I own myself.

Awesome link.....Thanks !

BTW you must have some huge paws on ya if that Glock 21 fits....:o) I've got one too but it's a plinker versus everyday carry.

1911A1 sort myself with a second to glocks , SIG's, Browning Highpowers and Smith & Wesson "revolvers" in that order.

Stay Safe !

DON'T TELL MY WIFE! She's already bought three in the last year! Two semi-autos (a 40 and a 9mm) and a derringer.

"The person who had the defective gun should not have let the dealer who sold it to him off the hook."

Why? If the gun operates the way it should when he gets it back, the dealer no longer has any obligations. Let the guy shoot the 400 rounds when it comes back and he should be happy.

Unfortunately, anyone can get a bad example of even great guns. So one should be careful about seeing a review that slams a gun on one example.

I realize that the poster didn't actually write the review of the Taurus, but I'd like to say something about a PT-99 that I purchased in 1989...

I was using it for pin and IPSC matches, and probably put well over 10,000 rounds through it in 3 years, with no problems at all. Then I purchased some IMI ammo that I later found was sub-sonic SMG ammo, which was WAY overpressure for a handgun. At the very least +P+! Well, I fired about 400 rounds (of the 500 I bought), and the gun refused to unlock. I noticed that the locking block had broken. I called the dealer, who reminded me of the lifetime warranty, and I sent the pistol back to the manufacturer. About two weeks later, they had checked out the slide and frame, saying that they were OK, and had replaced the locking block and the barrel, all at no charge, except for my shipping the gun to them.

I've always thought that Taurus made a great gun and had a terrific warranty.

I replaced the grips on my Taurus 92 with a set made out of rubber. The rubber folded back and allowed the slide release to fall out and disappear. The gun was sent back and the release was replaced at no charge.
The 92 won't shoot lead. If I do, I get one foot by one foot groups at fifty feet.
I think I've broken every handgun I've ever shot a lot. If I didn't break it, I've switch parts around just to make it pretty. I even broke a Thompson Contender.

Remind me not to let you shoot any of my guns!

For the most part, you were right about lead bullets, until I did some checking... If I remember correctly (it's been at least 10 years, so this may NOT be right!), the standard .355 lead bullets were wildly inaccurate. However, I got some Bull-Ex .356 hard cast bullets, and using Scott powder (I believe it was Solo-1000), I was able to get decent sized groups, but for matches, I would use jacketed bullets.

Interestingly enough, the most accurate ammo that I ever shot out of the handgun were those SMG rounds that broke the gun! I got a 25 yard, 5 shot group that was just a hair over 7/8"! from a rest! I'm not kidding! It probably has something to do with extra heavy, extra long boat tail bullets... If I remember correctly, they were much bigger and heavier than any other 9mm bullets I've seen... I believe that they were 169gr JRNBT! Most subsonic rounds use a 147gr bullet.

And while I've only broken that one handgun, I've decided to never take the side panel off of another S&W revolver, as I now realize that I will never be able to get it back on so the revolver will work, and I've bled on nearly every gun I own...

Finally, when I was "young and dumb," I actually thought that recoil was fun... The thought of loading up monster .44MAG rounds for my Redhawk (that I'd NEVER fire out of my Ron Power GrandMaster 629!) just weren't loud or flashy enough... I thought that a 300gr bullet at 1250fps or a 185gr bullet at 1700fps just wasn't enough... I actually seriously considered a TC Contender in either .444 or (wait for it...) .375JDJ! I went as far to call JD Jones about the barrel and dies, but finally came to my senses. I realized that I didn't need a handgun that could drop an elephant in it's tracks! So I bought a Star Firestar .40 instead...

My Taurus PT145 started light striking the last time I was at the range so it's hit the safe until I can ship it back.

Hmmmmmmm......... I had a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry, lock up on me the other night. Must be a full moon or sun spots..........

I've blued and parkerized guns that have never rusted on me even when I carried into the big blue sea while in the service.

This Kimber has a bushingless (sic?) barrel and the frame and barrel bushing were welded up right nicely. I carry it strong side mexican (aka in the waistband with out a holster) so acidic sweat aside the metalurgy of this POS must indeed be new S&W castings product.....

Anyone out there have a like experience..... ???? .......and yes I clean it after my each of my two range days a week and live in low humidity area of Texas panhandle......

Stay Safe !

"Unfortunately, anyone can get a bad example of even great guns."

B.S. That's like saying anyone can get a "rare" lemon smoke detector.

Getting a lemon gun is like getting a lemon smoke detector. The problem - with either - isn't like getting a bad television or car. The problem with getting a bad gun or a bad smoke detector is likely to be you die.

Recent quality control and design problems at some gunmakers - especially S&W - are terrible. S&W's 30-year-old used revolvers are much better than their new ones.

By the way, no matter how hard I try to replace it for daily carry, I keep ending up going back to my Keltec P40.

Have you seen their subgun? It looks pretty cool and I've heard it's fun to shoot. I'm waiting for it to come out in .40 later this summer then will test it out.

I own a Smith & Wesson model 19 .357 mag. revolver. I would trust that weapon with my life anytime.
