You ever hear about Jim Fixx?! ;)

Yes, I've heard of him. I haven't read the story, but he was the jogger that
died of a heart attack, right? Lucky for Basil she had the aspirin and the frame
of mind to remember that at the time!
Close call, Basil, and glad you're still with us and (hopefully) recovering well!

My dog had gone into "protective mode"--how do they know to do that?--and she wouldn't let Mr. basil near me!

Did you train "her" to regard your own husband as a threat? I think I'd have shot that dog.

In case of a heart attack:
1.) Take 1 Aspirin 2.) Drink some water
2.) Call 911
3.) With any remaining energy, lock dog in closet before blacking out.

Glad you're okay.

Yep, I wasn't ignoring yer post, chickie... Saving it for a time when I have time, and attention-span, to devote to it the attention it deserves. It's a long-a$$ post, and I'm used to one-syllable rants. ;)

Apparently the tongue thing didn't actually happen--it was a figment of my wild imagination during this whole thing--or so the doc says.

Of all things, mine happened during a treadmill test! I kept telling the Dr. who was administering the test that I was in distress; I didn't have real bad chest pains at first, but I had the "elephant on the chest", along with the feeling of impending doom and the cold sweat. He just kept telling me I was doing fine - After all, I was a pre-menopausal woman - who'd a thunk it?

I assume you now own this doctor's boat and winter home?

Gald to hear you made Parole! (LOL!)

Serious: When I saw the Prayer thread, I was worried. I am glad to hear you are feeling better.

I care for Mother who is a Heart Paitent. After going through a number of Paramedic calls for her, I came up with a 1 page form that helps. I print up several copies. One in Mother's purse, one by her Meds, and one in a file. It is a form done in Word. Feel free to download the form and use it yourself. It helps to have ALL important Medical information on one page that Paramedics and Doctors can refer to quickly.

I printed up this thread and had Mother read it. It helped to discuss this with her, because she tends to fight me when I feel it is time to call the medics!

Thanks for the nice words.

Thanks also for the form. I printed up a couple of copies of it, also. It is helpful to have all that information in one place.

I thought the secret of aspirin was to take one every day or two in order to PREVENT heart attack? Is this correct?

I don't think your mind was playing tricks on you, I think you were having a near death experience.

I had a near life experience today. The electricity went out in my place for almost an hour and while away from the 'puter I had that near life experience.

Prempro? What is this Prempro? Some drug? Folks, if you want to PREVENT heart attacks there is a very SIMPLE way. Find out about it HERE. Unfortunately, the FDA won't tell you about it because they have way too much belief in artificial drugs. Anyway, here is a key paragraph from that page:

What can prevent these tiny bleeds that cause the subsequent plaque to build up? The same compounds that are designed to prevent scurvy in non-fruit-eating animals -- vitamin C ascorbates. Most mammals make their own ascorbates in their livers; only humans, primates, guinea pigs and one fruit-eating bat do not. The presence of sufficient vitamin C in the arteries is a critical factor in the prevention of arterial plaque, which is the precursor to about 75% of all heart attacks, and is the cause of all bypass surgeries and angioplasties. Plaque is also an underlying cause of aneurysms, another top killer for men over 55.

I've posted this info from time to time over the past few years here but it doesn't seem to sink in. Hopefully some of you out there will start drinking FRESH-SQUEEZED citrus daily and prevent a whole lot of health problems.

Hey, I just checked up on Prempro on the Web and it sure doesn't sound like a very good solution. As a matter of fact I saw warnings about its danger. Even on a website recommending Prempro, I read the following warning:

Common side effects may include nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, and abdominal pain.

That sure doesn't sound like a good alternative. Check out the page I just posted about citrus and cardiac disease. Best of all, there are no bad side effects to drinking citrus. BTW, I have noticed that all these drugs now advertised on TV have a followup warning (in a quick, hushed voice) of the dire side effects of taking whatever drug that was just promoted. Often the side effects are much worse than whatever was ailing you in the first place. Here is my impression of a typical such commercial warning:

"If you take Zamflax, common side effects may include stomach aches, asthma, insomnia, headaches, nausea, diarrhea fits, road rage, festering skin lesions, blindness, amnesia, impotence, uncontrollable drooling, and a tendency to vote the straight Demmycrat ticket."
