Its successor, the so far unnamed CVN-77, will be delivered in early 2008

Any suggestions? USS Trade Center?

Rumor has it that CVN-77 will be the USS Lexington.

What about the USS James K. Polk. Polk was one of the most succesful presidents who ever served. During his term the US annexed Texas, fought and won the US-Mexican War, and added the territories which are now the states of California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. A ship named for President Polk is not a ship to be messed with.

I suppose that it is safe to assume that it won't be the William Jefferson Davis Clinton.

His would have been more appropriately CVN-69.

The names of most of the great Presidents have already been used - Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt (Teddy), Eisenhower, Reagan. Kennedy's name was appropriately relegated to an oil-burner.

With delivery in 2008, we still have about five years to select a name. Be patient, a name will emerge as the obvious one.

I have favored USS World Trade Center since 9/11, but USS New York City or USS Liberty would be fine with me as well.

I think USS GHW Bush is a horrible idea, I hope it isn't true, and if it is true I hope he declines.
