Any one of those plans that includes surface-to-air missile batteries and Phalanx close-in anti-aircraft defenses.

I like #6 (bottom one) I'm guessing there's another building in the far corner. The symmetry is nice.

Nothing impressive, the very bottom one is the least ugly.
To: finnman69
Think it's a question of which I like least... and that's not an easy question to answer.
To: finnman69
#5
But all the designs are lacking, hopefully the owner of the site will realize this.

If not this then I vote for either Plan four or six (Leaning toward plan four though)
To: finnman69
underwhelming..
sad.
disapointing.
says nothing.
no presence
bland committee work.
is there goining to be a public meeting for this. Is the public allowed to attend and speak? Will c-span have their one microphone at this meeting?
To: finnman69
The first one scared me at first glance. I thought it looked like they were planning on putting in a large soccer field.
To: finnman69
I like the idea someone around here proposed. Build a cluster of 44 story buildings in the shape of a pentagram, a la the Pentagon. The square footage lost would be the same, ostensibly, with an open courtyard for a memorial. The following link was pretty impressive, too.

#5 and 6 look like something from the
Fountainhead.
The second one is the best.

Nothing but an exact replica of what was destroyed is o.k. in my book.

My vote is option seven. See post #10.

Oh that's hilarious! 4 Silos and a pyramid! What are they going to do, broadcast crop circles out of the top of that thing!

Could these be trial baloons to aclimate the public to a shorter issue.
In other words, the politician are giving you an irrelivant multiple choice in order to direct the dicussion. (they really do not care about which plane) because they (politicians and leftists) do not want to build something on a grand scale. It would be like a car saleman asking "when would you like to buy this car." note: the when not if.
To: jocwhales
Good link. Wish the people in charge of the project had the backbone to do something on this scale.

I can appreciate that. At least it shows some creativity. These 6 samples don't offer much of that, imo.
To: Militiaman7
I heard on the radio a women make the following suggestion... Let's rebuild the towers the way they were are then lease them out to First Union for $1. They could put a big "F" on top of the first tower, and a big "U" on top of the second. :)

Agree. There is nothing that stands out with any of these designs- other than that they are pretty lame.

Remember folks, these are just PLANNING concepts, not final building designs. Even the masses of the towers shown are just suggestive of fomrs, not final forms. My professional architectural opinion leads me to believe that the final choice will be a mix of several ideas shown here. NONE of the schemes shown here will likely make it intact to the final master plan stage.
To: rintense
Thanks for linking to that site. That is an impressive display, if nothing else.
To: finnman69
Pathetic.Nothing to inspire here at all.

Except to add more external support, missles on top, and an additional story on each--just to tell them it's back and more.

Do we have any vital stats? Which one results in the tallest building? That's the one I'm for. I believe in escalations, some a-hole knocks down your building that X stories tall it's your duty to replace it with something at least X+1 stories tall.

Those plans all reveal what's lacking in this nation. There's no vision. These are the best plans that "bright" people could come up with? Yikes!
To: finnman69
The planners and architects should be dressed in 50lbs of clothing and see how many stories they can ascend and do something useful. That should determine the maximum height!
To: jocwhales
I agree with you that the first choices don't offer much creativity. But I guarantee that design you link to would show up in a future MIB sequal, and probably with good reason!

They all look bad IMHO, but #1 looks a little like a giant hand reaching from the ground to crush something like out of a bad movie
To: OXENinFLA
I like the bottom one also. It gives the flavor of the old skyline. Hopefully, they will build the inside structure in the conventional way.

The plans call for four to six office towers, ranging from 32 to 85 stories, and 600,000 square feet of retail space. Several acres would be devoted for a permanent memorial to the 2,823 known victims of the attacks, plus the six victims of the 1993 bombing of the trade center, whose memorial was destroyed.

Sorry, but that has to be one of the ugliest buildings I have ever seen designed in the world. What a massive inhuman monster.

Ping to post #23! That's good, too! : )
To: OXENinFLA
I agree. Also #2 looks cool with that cylindrical building.
To: finnman69
The owner of the site is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey so whatever is built there will probably be another dud.
No tax money or Port Authority subsidy should be involved. Private capital all the way.

My gut tells me this is going to play out very similarly to how the Vietnam Memorial in Wash DC played out.....initially people are going to freak over the design/plans, but upon visiting the place will realize that the planners got it absolutely right.
Workers and visitors will be both moved by the tasteful memorials and also excited about the promise for the future the new buildings will bring.
After a tug of war over delicate issues, some pushing, shoving and sharply thrown elbows, NYC's gonna' get it just right....I can't wait!

Yes, the link provides an impressive and beautiful concept. If only the people involved would be gutsy enough to build it.

Nothing but an exact replica of what was destroyed is o.k. in my book.As soneone with a vested interest in this, I don't believe that the rebuilt WTC has to be an exact replica of what was so brutally taken down, but the same height (at least!) and # of floors (at least!) must be rebuilt, or we might as well just build a mosque there and put a white flag on top of it.
To: finnman69
You know what my first impression of those "Memorial Park" concepts was? People standing around a grave.
We don't need that in these times. We've mourned our dead and will remember them and always honor their memory, but we don't need buildings to keep us mourning for the next few centuries. We need to build something there that will be uplifting, something to honor the resilience and determination that has marked the character of America through its history. If we do less, it may mark the first time that we, as a people, will have chosen to honor a regression and retrenchment of our national spirit.

None of the designs even approaches the 110 stories that scraped the sky.
IMO, to not have at least one in the design group is an abomination similar to the politically-correct three-hero-firefighters-hoisting-the-U.S.-flag statue
