World Trade Center Proposals

http://www.wtc2002.com/start.lasso and http://renewnyc.com/index.shtml

I have lurked for years and just got our new computer so I am not proficient in posting. Yet.

Get your vote on the following proposals. My husband and I voted for the wtc2002. The other proposals - which have been all over the news - in our humble opinions are wimpy.

wtc2002 is magnificent and "In THEIR FACE" with taller buildings. It's exactly what America is all about.

OH, YES!!

The "Classic" "Extended Middle Finger" Design!!

I think MOST of America would agree with this--especially if the "Tall Tower" was WAY Taller than 110 stories (say, 150 stories or so....)

I think most Americans--in their Heart-of-Hearts--want "US" to respond to the Barbarians with a MASSIVELY symbolic gesture!

In my small way, I talk to hundreds of ordinary Americans each week; the VAST CONSENSUS is, "The Finger!!"

I wish that was the case. What's going to happen is that the WTC complex won't be so huge. It will be divided into a normal city square again. The most we can hope for is a couple of 50 stories buildings, along with a memorial of course. There's won't be anything more than that. Maybe even less than that.

That must be the design. Forget being a true American, that's being a true New Yorker. If there is going to be a memorial park, I say find some of Atta's DNA, drive a cross through it (I think that's Ann Coulter's idea), and have women walk by and touch his tomb on their lunch breaks. He would really enjoy that.

Some people keep bringing up the point of insurance, but a few automated antiaircraft batteries and truck barriers should take care of that.

Another reason I will never be in charge, I would execute Al queda members in the memorial park.

No Doubt you're correct, but MY "sense of the Citizens" is that ANY "Wimpy" response will be regarded with CONTEMPT!

The "Rank & File" Americans think that the Rebuilt Towers should be a STATEMENT to our enemies!

I have no "Axe to Grind" in this Debate; I merely report what "the sense of the Regular Citizens" is regarding this issue!

From my candid conversations with hundreds of Citizens over the past few Months, I have "Gleaned" that the Rebuilt Towers should be a MASSIVE, DEFIANT response to their attack.

The Hundreds of Americans I speak with each month ALL seem to want us to rebuild the Towers as an act of Defiance!

There's a Clear Sense that our response to these barbarians MUST BE VERY POWERFUL & VERY STRONG in both a real & symbolic sense!

Short of "Nuking" MECCA, "The People" seem to feel that rebuilding the Towers--"Bigger & Better"--is our BEST response to the Barbarians who assaulted us!

I Concur!--"The Finger" is CORRECT & Proper!!

Some other ideas from www.buildthetowers.org

This concept from Ray Keim ...

... and the designer's own commentary on the following ...

September 11th was a tragic day in the history of the United States. A day burned into our memories forever.

The destruction of the World Trade Center was a harsh blow to our feeling of security, and a brutal blow to thousands of families and friends across the nation and the globe.

In order to show that the US will not be defeated, I have designed a concept for a New World Trade Center to be built in the same spot as the destroyed Trade Center. This New World Trade Center would be both a functioning Trade Center and a fitting memorial, rising above the New York City skyline, to those innocents who lost their lives.

The design's purpose is to inspire our imagination, hope, and our American Spirit during this time of desperation and crisis.

With everyone's love of the Empire State & Chrysler buildings, I have designed a structure that is sympathetic to their aesthetic and better harmonizes with the current city skyline. The winged structures on the top make the building taller than the original towers, while not adding floors. I would also like to fill the atriums/lobbies of both towers with gold-leafed angels representing each person who died due to the tragedy. (Every culture has some form of angel-being, so please don't feel my symbology is purely Judeo-Christian.)

The two towers rise from a four story pad, housing various shops, restaurants and offices. The towers are built to resemble 11 point stars from the air, as a reminder of the day the first towers were lost. An open-air atrium in the four story pad is also an 11point star. In the center of this atrium are the remains of some of the exterior walls of the original towers. (You can see this area in blue at the base of the towers.) The whole effect would be of two winged phoenixes rising from the ashes and ruins, symbolizing our strong inner feelings of Hope and Self-Confidence as a nation.

That is what I'll do. But the problem is that America has changed. This is the culture of victimhood, so we are feeling sorry and very reluctant to build anything grand and to move on from the atrocities of September 11. The American spirit is non-existent except for the people on Free Republic, and few other places in our lives.

To tell you the truth, I think a wimpy memorial taking up space is a bad idea. Do we really have to remember Sept. 11 in 100 years from now and the terrorists won because we aren't building anything that magnificent again? I say no way, but I realize that things have changed, and we have to build memorials whatever something bad happened since this is the culture of victimhood.

By the way, I don't mind a plaque reminding us of September 11th, but do we need a park? C'mon, the weirdos and undesirables will love it at night.

See, America is no longer America as it ought to be.

...there won't be anything more than that. .....

50 (Fifty) Stories??????

A LOT of us (Probably a HUGH MAJORITY of Us) will regard ANYTHING LESS than a MUCH LARGER (Overall) Structure than the Original Towers is a CAPITULATION to the CRETINS who Destroyed the original structures!

For Philosophic & Political & Cultural-Political reasons, we HAVE to "Raise a structure" FAR GREATER than the "Towers!"

We are dealing with SubHuman psychopaths.

We are engaged in a "Conflict" of UTTER BARBARISM!!

THERE ARE NO "RULES of ENGAGEMENT!!"

"Symbolism" has REAL MEANING,--& "Savagery" is IRRELEVANT if the survival of "One of ours" is "at Stake!!!"

We ALL have been Blessed to live here!

No doubt that you are right. Unfortunately, the towers won't be rebuilt. It's a shame that those savages destroyed it, but I admit the Terrorists won. The country is a big wimp right now, we are all too "afraid". Even though many of us would want to rebuild the towers into something even more magnificent than on that fateful Indian Summer day, we are not in charge of the reconstruction of Former World Trade Center. From what I see, the idea that many Americans want is just not feasible at this point. We never know, maybe I'm wrong and we will have 120 floor towers. But would I bet on it? No way.

We ALL have been Blessed to live here!

Yes, God Bless America, we are fortunate to live in this splendid country.

TRUST the "Politicians" to be UTTERLY OBLIVIOUS to the symbolic significance of the "Arcitecture" of the "Rebuilt TOWERS!"

UTTER "SOCIOPOLITICAL BLINDNESS!"

So Be It!!

I guess I have more faith in the "Steel" in the Backbone of our fellow citizens.

As the "Rebuild" issue has come to the forefront of Americans' consciousness, the idea of putting "lesser Buildings" on the Site has become Less & Less palatable!

Most Americans--when "Fully Engaged" in thinking about WHAT should be built at the site of the Towers--want the Structure to be a Defiant Statement to the Psycopaths who thought they could "Cow Us" by such an act!!

Either Build the Towers Taller, or create an EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE structure!

The "Six Proposals" are "Politically Correct CRAP!!"

The "Sense of the American People" is to "Build 'Em back up--Taller & Better!!"

Americans are an UNFORGIVING Lot when attacked.

:::to the Architects of the "Twin Towers Site,"--Create a Breathtaking, Immensely Tall utilitarian building that Utterly Defies the Barbarians!!

Make the "Twin Towers Site" TALLER & GRANDER!!

Believe me, THAT will be the "Proper Response" to our attackers!!

I recently came across a message from QUESTER which was posted at least a year ago, mentioning my World Trade Center Memorial proposal. The quote which he included on the message is not mine! The description is from some other person, about some other design.
I have since collaborated with a designer in Amsterdam to create another design for the official 9/11 Memorial. It has been entered into the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's memorial competition. We are waiting for the announcemnt of the semi-finalists in late September. After that announcement (whether we are chosen or not) I will post our entry on my web site.

My original design and description, which Quester was referring to, can be found at:

Ray,

I had images of (2) of the proposals for the rebuilding of the WTC on that posting. The quote you refer to, was actually made by the designer of the other proposal shown, and was in regard to his proposal.

That said ... your WTC proposal remains my favorite of any of the many proposals I happened across during that time.

The proposal that was eventually chosen was my second favorite. It is similar to your design, I think, ... though perhaps not as daring.

I am glad to hear that you are involved in the submission of design proposals for the WTC memorial. That can only be for the good. I have been quite impressed with what I have seen of your work to this point.
