I used to live on 48th Street and 8th Avenue. It was VERY crowded, and attracted a lot of tourists (Theatre District). It was my experience that Native New Yorkers were extremely polite and helpful, but only to each other. the Tourists from Japan were also excellent. always aware of their surroundings, and quick to get out of the way. By far the worst were the tourists from the heartland. They had never seen buildings so large, were usually a bit overwhelmed, and were oblivious to the fact that someone else might actually live there and be in a hurry.

I even had a tourist get angry at me once for pushing the revolving door from behind them. (In Manhattan we call that being polite) She had wandered into my apartment building while the doorman was helping another tenant unload a car.

This woman stood in front of my home spouting profanity in a Minnesota accent because I was trying to help her with the door.

And they say New Yorkers are rude.

That is too funny. You have to live in New York to understand some of these things.
