Thanks!
Based on our previous endeavours, I have a hunch we'll find a way to screw it up. We haven't fought a proper war to victory since WWII. We screwed up in Nam, we screwed up in Korea, we screwed up in the Gulf, and I'm sure we'll find a "liberal" and "peace loving" way to F&^#@^ this one up, as well.
I am, however, currently getting myself in shape to join the reserves. I'm going to be prepared to do my part since 37% of my generation decided they would EVADE the draft. I choose to fight for my freedom, even if I have no guarantee that my government won't turn into a tyranny. We all must do our part to speak and spread the truth.
I pray we get it "right" this time.
This at least is correct.
Remember after one year of the great war America was isolationist in nature almost right up to Pearl Harbour.
Vietnam almost had a major effect on the American psyche, in fact the Vietnam factor is still seen as having a major effect on American policy.
In all your wars destruction has not been visited on your civilian population until sept 11, which was more of a one off cowardly attack.
My wifes parents both German, still remember the total bombing from the air, of death and total destruction.
In early 1945 the USAF carried out a operation a bombing attack on all major towns in Germany, the reason as layed out was to inflict such terror on Germany that German militrism would be crushed to never rise again.
Maybe one day when all those who survived the Second World war and the death and destruction is but a very distince memory maybe Europe will re discover its war like nature again.
During the rise of Hitler France was on the verge of a civil war that is a major reason she collapsed so quickly during the Battle of France.
Britian was alos in a bad state still recovering from the effects of the depression.
Maybe America could of joined with the Western Democracies in the 30s, maybe then both Hitler, Stalin and Tojo would of been checked.
But after the losses of the first world war America just wanted to hunked down. That is understandable.
Cheers Tony
I love that man!
So he should. Now that they have lost both the appetite and the capacity for power politics, the Europeans are in the grip of a contradiction. They insist that acts of war can only be justified by moral absolutes. They also insist that we live in a world of moral relativities.
Very well put.
