At a recent international AIDS conference, another disturbing report was presented to the world about the increasing number of deaths due to this dreaded disease. Pardon me if Im skeptical!
The main reason I am doubtful about the results is that the conference was sponsored by the United Nations, that antiquated monument to global impotence. Their new world order has made the UN the tax collectors for the third world welfare state. The UN is nothing more than a blight on the New York landscape and a waste of precious real estate. Moreover, the reason that building was not attacked by the terrorists is that it has increasingly become their home away from home.
The United Nations isnt nearly as concerned about the eradication of AIDS as they are picking the pockets of the countries who did not destroy their own economies with failed socialistic policies.
The doomsday predictions of an international AIDS epidemic that is facing the worlds population is one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on mankind. It might surprise you to learn that on a yearly basis, malaria kills more people than AIDS. Nearly ninety percent of the worlds reported cases of malaria occur in Africa. Tuberculosis, a disease relatively unknown to Americans, kills nearly as many as AIDS. But neither malaria or tuberculosis receive the level of concern or funding devoted to AIDS. The disease, although serious and tragic, is certainly not a threat to the heterosexual, non drug-using community outside of Africa.
Now we learn that the Muppets will include an HIV-infected character on their broadcasts in South Africa. Isnt that nice! If these children didnt have enough to worry about with starvation and disease, now they have to confront a talking sock with a liberal agenda. The Childrens Television Workshop has become the Disgruntled Wackos Workshop.
I will not argue with anyone who says that AIDS is an epidemic in Africa. But the disease is not spreading there because America does not care enough! AIDS is not a threat to the African continent because we have failed to devote enough to its funding. Furthermore, AIDS will not be stopped by increasing the money we send to the people of Africa.
AIDS is behaviorally spread and behaviorally prevented. And it will not be stopped until we boldly confront the causes of its transmission.
Along with the poverty and unsanitary conditions in Africa, there are also long-held cultural practices that make it nearly impossible to stop the spread of these dreaded sexually transmitted diseases. But these problems will not be alleviated by more American dollars.
These countries are run by corrupt government officials who will make sure that the money never gets to where it was intended to go. These funds will be used to upgrade their palaces, increase the might of their armies, and to guarantee that they continue their lives of obscene power and opulence. Meanwhile, their citizens die of poverty and pestilence.
Moreover, the AIDS crisis that is growing in China may not be the fault of poverty as much as it may be the unintended consequence of numerous years of sex selection. Men now greatly outnumber women in China.
And that brings us to the primary reasons for the transmission of the disease. Homosexuality and illicit drug use are running rampant in many of these countries.
No doubt I will lose many of you on this next point, but it must be said! Another component in the spread of AIDS is the fact that these countries do not have Americas religious underpinnings. Our country was built on Judeo-Christian standards of morality. These rich traditions of faith preclude much of the behavior that increases the spread of these sexually transmitted diseases.
In a sense, it could be said that their lack of a moral foundation is the basis for the third world AIDS epidemic. And that will not be solved by more funding.
A good dose of capitalism and American values could be just the prescription the doctor ordered.

don'tcha just luv a well turned phrase
I admit, I used to be one of those idiots who felt all warm and squishy about AIDS. Afterall, my best friend and his partner, both lived with it during the most of the nineties.
What I never wanted to face (until I just couldn't ignore the truth) was that, as much as I loved my two friends, it wasn't 'fate' or 'that bad uncaring Ronald Reagan' that caused their disease. No, what caused their disease was their own lack of judgement: Circuit parties, multiple partners, and most of all--the idea that to hold them responsible was "homophobic" and "judgemental".
I'm really sorry that AIDS is so prevalent in Africa (where ideas such as 'deflowering' infants can cure an AIDS sufferer abound)but lack of monetary funds isn't the reason. I think TOO much money's been thrown away in the name of "research".
Makes me think of that line in Taxi Driver, "Someday a big rain is gonna come along and wash these streets clean..."
Best,
Reep
Thanks to Alive & Well (and some other organizations) I really don't see this problem the same way any more. I still admit to not having any real idea exactly what's going on out there. But I'm becoming more and more convinced that, in how we're handling this, we're doing nothing but wasting time and money.
More important, we're funding liberal constituencies and feeding their agendas of hatred, bigotry, jealousy, and immorality.
