Thank Heavens for men like Dr. James Dobson.........because gambling is an evil, insidious industry. To ignore its problems is folly.A significant number of people also feel that tobacco, SUV's, guns, and now, high fat and high carbohydrate foods are evils that we need to control, if not extinguish through class action lawsuits and government intervention. I assume that you and Dobson are in favor of crippling, if not killing these industries also.

Casinos are srouting up everywhere and soon the law of competition will put many out of business. Already Vegas is having a case of the shudders as many people from California are staying away. They are frequenting local CA casinos where they also lose their hard-earned money just as fast.
Casinos are built with one objective: to take your money, nothing else. It works! Look at the billions of gambler's money spent to fuel the luxorious hotels in Vegas. Please note: we do enjoy the lavish buffets, but refuse to give them our coins or bills. We hope the losers continue to donate their money. Makes the economy grow.

A significant number of people also feel that porn, abortion, pyramid schemes, and now, organizations that support terrorism are evils that we need to control, if not extinguish through class action lawsuits and government intervention. Casinos will go the way of tobacco.

We all are Dobson at some point. Is this what you're instructed to say right before you drink the Kool-Aid?

But you may be him on some issues. It's funny to hear Libertarians say "He shouldn't be allowed to speak".

It's not gambling ... it's gaming. Get it right. Gambling is bad, gaming is fun!

It's funny to hear Libertarians say "He shouldn't be allowed to speak".He certainly has the right to speak.

No doubt. Vegas owners are willing to pay $100's of millions of dollars for buildings, just to tear them down and rebuild. There is a lot of money in gambling.
It's slowed down a bit, as you said lots of competition, and now only a few groups (i.e. MGM, Circus Enterntainment) own the majority of the casinos.

And speaking of casino fun, FRiva Las Vegas is just a few short weeks away!

I think it's very sad how all over the nation there's been an explosion in the gambling type industries. It is not good for our people.
In my state, Arizona, the only people who can own casinos are indians. Then, on top of that the casinos have not been taxed at all. They're the only business that is not taxed by the state. That is changing, but the indians are still on a pedestal and the normal taxes are not applying to the casinos. They are treated with kid gloves regarding taxation by the state.
Meanwhile, we have a massive shortage of funds. The public schools have had their budgets actually cut, not just reduced in growth. The state's prisons have laid off prison guards and released prisoners early, all because of budget shortfall. It is still taboo to say that the indians' casinos should be taxed the same as any other business.
It is insanity how we've just allowed these casinos to expand. A small percentage of the population is very seriously damaged by gambling, yet nobody benefits in reality.

Trial lawyers are beginning to lick their collective chops at this ripe and rich target. The continued ruination of this country at the hands of trial lawyers.

Good luck to those participating in this anti-gambling crusade. There are a lot of players.

A small percentage of the population is very seriously damaged by gambling, yet nobody benefits in reality. Not only me, but many others, have won plenty of money gambling. That's something the anti-gambling crowd never wants to admit.
Yes, I've lost money too but with a little research and discpline, I've been able to minimize losses and come out ahead overall.
And, seriously, how is betting on, say, football any different than playing the stock market?
