"A vibrant nuclear industry would replace those old reactors with newer and safer technologies."

No matter how advanced, every reactor produces some waste; it's an inevitable aspect of the periodic table. Without the government honoring its decades-old commitment to receive and dispose of that waste, building new reactors (no matter how theoretically efficient) was legally and financially impossible. It's the opposition to Yucca Mountain, and the opposition to nuclear power in general, that has delayed those new, safer, cleaner reactors. We'll still have to fight to get the new reactors built, but at least we can fight that battle now, rather than having to continually rehash an issue decided 20 years ago.

No argument there. I was merely pointing out some of the destructive consequences of the anti nuclear move-mint. The question on any technology is how much does it produce, what is in it, and how long does it last? The problem with any poison is dosage. New reactors and reprocessing produce vastly less waste requiring storage. New technologies do a better job of reducing total waste. There is also lower risk of a future accident due to overworking old equipment.

IMHO, current policy is basically producing an eventual Chernobyl here in the US. We ought to be laying that at the feet of the activists BEFORE the accident eventually happens.

A little add on to your comment re Carter hurting this country.

I have no doubt that he was the first major Rat bought out by the Opecker Princes to enable them, make us more dependent on Opecker Oil and to kick start the enviral movement that really made us dependent on Opecker oil:(Link to how the Opecker Princes bought out Carter a long time ago)

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Let's hope you don't need the Nevada votes again Jorge, cause you've lost them. In fact, you've cost ALL REPUBLICANS trouble in their elections here. Hope you're satisfied.
