A buddy of mine works at Parkland hosipital Dallas in the labor and delivery area. He has seen 10 and 11 year olds give birth. He also told me he has run across women in their early 20's who are grandmothers.

I've seen the same thing. Also an 18-year old who was what we call a "grand multipara" (5 or more kids.) She was having her 6th child.

It seems to be particularly prevalent in Hispanic communities. To their credit, they love babies and families, but it is unhealthy when even a 13 or 14-year old girl is celebrated for getting pregnant, and feted with baby showers etc.

Of course it is by no means isolated to minority communities. One of the most appalling cases I saw was a lovely little blond 11-year-old, a Mormon in fact, who became pregnant by a slightly older schoolmate.

I wonder about hormones added to meat to make the product more tender. Some scoff at that but it certainly could be a cause if not the only cause for early maturation.

Whatever happened to playing Spin the Bottle and Post Office and Truth or Dare? Seems like an awful lot of kids are going straight from dolls and toy trucks to "all the way". There used to be a lot of phases in between.

Wheen I raise my children we were taught the principle of the latency period.

A time when children have little interest in sex and spend time developing other social skills

Sex Ed has elimated that period..We now have people that think it is like shaking hands..

Well I found the threats of beatings help:>)

I rasied two daughters very different animals..I knew which one would be a "problem" from little up ..she need peer approval from the get go..the other daughter did not much care if others liked her or not..

That ability to swim against the current served her well..She was in her late 20's when she married and she was so proud to wear her white dress..she had earned the right..

So much is genetic..and emotional..But kids that need peer approval in clothes or makeup or recreation are going to be a problem..cause ya know what "everybody does it"..and they want and need to be everybody

BTW my peer dependant daughter is "gifted" and beautiful .She is a college grad ,married and a new mom...and she still is peer dependant ....and she still worries me (She is the only liberal in our family..but it is not popular to be conservative ....sooooooo)

I wonder too. But much of what I have read in the popular scince magazines tends to downplay the effect of additives (of the naturally occurring variety). For instance, health food stores will push black cohash as a natural plant-derived estrogen-like substance. They praise it as a treatment for menopause. Clincal studies don't seem to support it effectiveness, however. (One of the alternatives is estrogen dreived from pregnant mares' urine!)

Hormones, it seems to me go beyond "natural" additives and do worry me. Thanks for the reply.
