Child abductions actually down
But kidnappings by strangers generally rise in summer
MSNBC NEWS SERVICES
WASHINGTON, July 18 While its no comfort to parents of victims, the number of children abducted by strangers has declined compared with last year, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. As of July 7, about 37 children had been taken in kidnappings by strangers. Last summer, that number was at 47 to that date, the center said.

It reminds me of a conversation with a guy from England who told me that he wouldn't want to live in the US, because so many children are kidnapped. He told me that he had heard that it was thousands per year and that was why missing kids were put on milk cartons, America's Most Wanted and such. I told him that the vast majority of missing children was from domestic causes like divorce, that actually very few were actually kidnapped by strangers. Oh well, even one is too many.
